Title: problems with tropical storm.

just bowl a tropical storm last night, ball drilled pin 5" above the bridge from the PAP, cg kicked out 1" from center of grip, without weight hole.


the ball came originally 1500 grit polished, and today i actually threw this baby on a rather dry lane. i was quite disappointing seeing my ball hooking early on the lanes.


even my hammer psycho shined to 4000 grit can skid further, but rolled out due to the dry lane. (my psycho is drilled to roll early)


my question now, should i bring up the shine to 4000 grit? i really need this ball to skid in the dry conditions..

dev, the Tropical is stronger than a lot of people give it credit for! It has the Reactor pearl coverstock, which is the same cover as the Fired-Up and you may have to take the cover to a higher grit with polish. Remember the pin up drilling does get the ball down lane easier, but it also reacts harder when it reads the dry boards. Lower pin placement doesn't read the dry as hard and has more of a strong arc, but it reads the midlane better or sooner! Just my $.02, Bruce
P.S.
My dry lane stuff I'll use the pin either below middle finger or above middle finger depending on where I want the ball to read and if I want a hard move at the breakpoint or a ball that has a strong arc.

Yea I made the same mistake of buying the Tropical for dry lanes....not even close.  On true dry lanes, the ball was hooking at my feet

It became my first ball out of the bag though for medium-medium light conditions.

I wish I could buy another one...

Any resin + lack of head oil= instahook...

Exactly.  If you need to get the ball down the lane on very dry lanes, plastic is the best option really.  The Tropical Storm is meant to be something with a decent strength reactive resin cover and very little core for cheap.  Therefore, it's great for beginners with slower ball speeds, and for more advanced bowlers, it lets you still get good length on medium to light conditions but decent read on the backend, and you can greatly alter the ball's reaction through hand position changes, etc.
