PYRO - Ball pick please advise
« on: June 19, 2006, 03:26:07 AM »
I am preparing for the new season and I need a new ball.  I was currently using a storm hot rod pro stock sanded down to about 800 grit.  Not a bad ball but a little sensitive to our lanes sometimes.  I was looking at getting a pyro for a new ball this year.  I throw about about 15-17 mph generally.  I am a tweener but leaning more towards a cranker.  I have fast revs, and a high axis.  The lane conditions are medium light to medium.  Would the pyro be a wise investment given these conditions.  Thanks in advance for all of the help.

The Pyro would be a great decision, an easy ball to read, and hooks plenty....

I dont think the pyro would be wise, I have one and it turns a corner hard and keeps coming! The most continous ball I have ever thron and mine also flips fairly hard. Maybe its the drilling on mine? At times I have found the Pyro to be really touchy so, I keep the shine knocked off of mine to even it out a bit.

Ahhhhh....Accutread and Monsoon are my two favorite cover stacks. I used to have a Triple X Extreme with accutread that I loved, but sold it when I dropped to 14 pound balls.

Pyro would not be a wise choice for medium conditions from the description of you. You are in the right line but I'd match you to a Spit Fire or Fired Up. The Spit Fire will have the Fired Up core inverted which will be like the days of the Fire Storm and Forest Fire. Spit Fire will have a more even reaction versus the Fired Up that will skate through the front and save it all for the back.

I have Fired Up with probably 200+ games on it with a million gashes, cuts and scratches. It's a steady performer, I just regularly clean it and put it on the spinner every once in a while to lightly hit it with gray scotchbrite and polish. It's still tacky to this day as well as striking and sparing.
