Question..
« on: June 29, 2006, 06:12:45 AM »
I bowl saturday mornings at my local bowling alley and they are very lazy and usually never oil the lanes. So the mids are usually scorched and there is spotty oil all over the place. My S&D and my AF are way too strong and im not really comfortable swinging the ball the amount i have to useing these balls. For instance last wee i was standing 40 throwing abou 10-12 and i was crossing over. Finally i said F-it and used my spare ball but the carrydown didnt let it finish resulting in stone ten pins. The dilemma is will a fired up (pin above fingers) polished to the max work on these conditions or shuld i invest money on a dry lane ball? Other problem is i reallydont liek the way my friends tropical storm hits.Ive heard good things about Track's dry lane balls and also the Sahara from Morich. Suggestions greatly aprreciated

The Sahara is neat... pretty piece (check my review). It works very well on medium to medium-dry conditions, and is easy to control. The combo of the rather weak but snappy N'Control PowerBoost from the Punisher with the medium mass bias core is just great. Nevertheless, it is IMHO not a true dry lane ball, unless you drill it dead. Ifr you are facing scorched lanes, then take a look at Brusnwick's Power Groove Dry/R, it is a very good reactive ball for the dry.

What concerns me here isnt the equipment choice, its that in the initail post reppinNYC said he is standing on 40 and hitting 10-12 ??? Unless you seriously walk towards your target that isnt possible. My advice is to stand 40 and look farther left, say around 18-20 ( while walking straighter ). You might just find enough oil to allow you to use some stronger equipment. Your target shouldnt be much more than 15-18 boards right of where you start. Get yourself away from the track area and you might have more success

Hope this helps you

I have an Ebonite Maxim with a true pin axis drilling and on the conditions you're describing it works wonders.
I went in one weekend to give a few pointers to a new bowler on one of my teams and threw 695 while coaching him with this ball drilled this way.
And yes, I know it's a pancake ball, but I'll be glad to put you into contact with the pro shop operator so he can verify this.

reppin,

I would suggest the Slate Blue Gargoyle by Visionary.  If you say the midlanes are fried, even a dry lane reactive is going to grab that dry area.  The reason I suggest the Slate Blue, is that is has a urethane cover with a strong core in it.  If you say you are aboe to use your spare ball but leave alot of 10 pins, the urethane cover is going to be a little stronger than the plastic but get through the dry alot easier than the reactives.  With the core in it, it will hit the pin like a typical reactive.  It is advertised as rolls like a urethane, hits like a reactive.  I think this is a good mix with what you encounter on Saturday Mornings.  Whatever decision you go with, good luck to you and hope everything works out.
