STORM - Any Benchmark Ball Recommendations?
« on: July 25, 2006, 04:09:02 AM »
Hello to all!

Just wondering if anyone has any suggestions on a Storm Benchmark First Ball out of the Bag type ball on most Medium Conditions.

Current line would be great, but recently discontinued or retired balls would be fine as well.

Thanks and take care!

I still defend my Pyro as my benchmark ball, but I didn't clarify my position well. My Pyro is NOT in NIB condition. The reaction is still strong, but it's by no means as strong or as "poppy" as it was NIB. Also, it is slightly dulled simply from lots of play without reapplied polish... This ball just gets better and better. It always lets me know where the oil is on the lane and where the maximum breakpoint is without setting.

I will agree that a Pyro OOB would not be the best option for benchmark, so I'll put an addendum to my suggestion: Pyro, with the shine knocked off of it.

To be honest, Storm really doesn't have a "classic" benchmark ball OOB at this moment. They have great stuff but that one item is lacking, in my opinion anyway. Track has the Heat Blast which is a good benchmark. Anyway, best idea is to pick your favorite ball and start with that. If it works you're set, if it doesn't you can adjust or choose a different ball.

I also agree that the Thunderstruck is going to be the benchmark ball right now with the Dark Thunder coming in second.  Usually, balls that can be versatile with drillings and surface adjustments as well as balls designed for smoother backend reaction tend to be considered as benchmark material.

Yeah these would be the ones to get right now.  And oh yeah, they look and smell awesome.

I agree with thr Thunderstruck solid as their benchmark ball for right now. I'm also looking forward to drilling a Jolt solid as it has the old Electrical storm core (i was told this at a recent trade show)Right now my benchmark ball s a mild drill ZR-40
