Rainbow Storm ? ? ?
« on: July 17, 2004, 07:22:50 PM »
So yesterday while at a car show I won a door prizes, and of all things to win I receive ball from Storm called the "Rainbow".  I have searched and searched the Internet for information on this ball and I can't find anything.  Is it just a plastic K-Mart ball or something?  It is green.

It did come in the original Storm product box, but it doesn't have a spec sticker attached so I don't know the weights.  It looks like the pin-out is about 2 inches.

Any information is greatly appreciated.

This was the Forest Fire Storm(Their strongest solid reactive back in the day) with the weightblock inverted.  I've heard reports that with a maxed out drilling and enough hand, this thing can flare 10-12 inches!!

wow 10-12 inches of flare that is nuts. So you going to drill the ball and has any one ever thrown one if so how is it. Also here is a page with some more info on it.

That's kind of odd.  Usually manufacturers give the max or potential flare.  BBR says 6-7".  Not quite 10-12", but still quite a bit.  It also says medium differential.  6-7" is more than medium in my book.

If you have hand, you can take a ball with a 3-4" flare potential and get 5-6 or more depending on your initial track, axis tilt, and rotation.  I'm not sure what the Silver Streak Solid's flare potential is(I think it's 5") but I got 7 1/2-8 inches of flare out of mine with a label drill.

I do not know anything about this ball other than it might be fairly rare and I have seen it on E-Bay once

123bowl has a section on it, but absolutely no info:
http://www.123bowl.com/ball.asp?ballid=882

I am curious though, is this an overseas ball or an extremely limeted edition ball, ot both?

A friend of mine had a Thunder Road and was getting 9 inches of flare---measured in a pro shop so I'd consider that accurate info. Unsure of the drilling but this guy had good revs and medium speed--was a right hander, too.

I have no idea what I'll do with this ball.  It is 16 lb. and I only use 15 lb. equipment so I really don't have a need for it.  This ball sounds really interesting from what everyone has said.  I'll e-mail storm directly and see what they say and I post the answer here.

If you only through 15lb and it's a 16 you could sell it on here...there would probably be enough interest in it.

**Official Word from Storm**
I received a response from Vance at Storm and first he says it is a remake of the Pacific Storm:
quote:
The Rainbow Storm is actually a remake of our Pacific Storm. For more information on that ball check out this link: http://www.stormbowling.com/ball/archivedball.asp?ballid=133&ballname>PACIFIC+STORM%99

I responded and said:
quote:
My Rainbow Storm is a solid reactive, not pearl.  It is dark green in
color.  Does the Rainbow only share the same core as the Pacific
Storm?...or was there a solid coverstock version of the Pacific Storm as
well?

I just want to make sure that I have have the correct specs.

He replied and said:
quote:
The only Rainbow Storm balls that I have seen look very similar to the
Pacific Storm. You may have gotten a test or experimental version of the
Rainbow Storm. The core dynamics should be similar but the coverstock
would be a different blend.

In the end, I guess I have no idea what the ball actually is but it must be rather rare.

If you can get me a picture of this ball I would really appreciate it.  This is one ball I haven't been able to find anything on the overseas sites.

Trust me, it is a Forest Fire Storm.  Same cover, huge diff.  I bought one from Axeweldr like 2 1/2 years ago, thing flared out of the building with a pin/CG in palm drill.

DP3 is most likely right.  I've got some pictures for you to see it:

The color is almost identical to my old, original Forest Green Quantum.
