Randy Pederson in Fort Myers, Florida and new Storm releases
« on: April 18, 2007, 07:12:53 AM »
I was bringing a ball to my driller, Chuck Rucker, at Galaxy Lanes in Fort Myers around 1:30 today. I walk into this huge Storm display and, to my amazement, there was Randy throwing the T-Road Pearl! I was checking out the balls on display and Randy came over and started talking to me about different balls and their reactions. We spent about 15 minutes talking, what a really nice guy!!

Talk about a great surprise, I had no idea about the Storm open house.

For you Storm fans out there I can tell you what the next 2 releases will be as I held them both in my hands today. There is a T-Road Solid (really nice looking ball) and there is also a new Agent, the Secret Agent. I asked Randy about the coverstock on the new Secret, because I love my Special Agent. He said that he didn't know much about it but hang on let me make a call. So he calls some Storm tech/sales guy. What Randy was told is that it some kind of hybrid cover and he didn't know if it had any particle or not in it. I can tell you this: it is a relatively dull surface and it looks like there is at least some pearl (but that could just be the coloring) in it. I asked him if it was a solid particle, as this is the only thing missing from the Agent line but he didn't know. He did say that the cover is definately R2S based. He didn't know an exact release date.

There were 2 balls that you could try out, the T-Road pearl and the Jolt(I think, not positive). I didn't have my gear with me but there were a dozen or so guys trying the 2 balls out. Chuck was working his butt off changing thumb and finger grips among the various balls available to try. They also had 2 different lane conditions layed out to show the differences between the balls.

Randy is thinner and younger looking than he appears on TV, plus he is a really nice guy. Thanks Randy, for taking the time that you spent with me today, it was enlightening and interesting to discuss bowling balls and reactions with an accomplished pro.

I am just curious what Randy had to say about the difference in the two companies?I know he is paid by Storm, but I would still like to hear what he said about Ebonite/Hammer.

He said that nothing handles the mid-lanes as well as the current Ebonite/Hammer stuff. But he also described several of the tour shots and his opinion was that the storm stuff handled a better variety of conditions overall. (He is on Storm's payroll)

He does a great job for me. Art McKee used to drill all my stuff but he moved out of state. Who would you recommend?

The Secret Agent was definitely not a replacement for the original. It's dull and it may or may not have pearl in it. It looked like it had some and Randy said it was a hybrid.....

So nothing in the works to replace the original Agent, huh?  Then I guess I should just purchase and Agent for my summer league.

I felt Art was the best around when he was here. When he left I had Matt Gilman drilling my stuff when he came here but since he will be leaving at the end of April I don't have a driller. I would recommend Larry, as long as when your getting the stuff drilled he doesn't have a busy shop. Chuck is not a bad alternative but wouldn't be a first choice for me. Wouldn't go to Wes at Beach Bowl.

I used Larry when I first moved here but I wasn't happy with the results.

Where do you bowl?

I was born in Boston, lived in CT for a long time and I am also a huge fan of your fav teams (especially the Sox and Pats)

Hybrid is normally a mix of pearl reactive and solid reactive.

quote:
what's the difference between a Hybrid and a low particle load or a pearl particle load?  Never owned a Hybrid.

What is the Secret Agent going to look like, color wise and surface?  Sounds like it will be a good ball.

The one I saw had a dull surface. The lighting wasn't great but it looked like a mix of blue and red(or purple).

The T-Road solid WAS a good looking ball. No one was throwing one so I didn't see it roll.

I sub in that men's league at Coral, probably bowled 13 or 14 weeks out of the 31 so far.

Assuming it has the same inverted core as the T-Road Pearl, it has to roll very nice.  I am thinking it may be like a Dark Thunder?

The cover is a dull finish....the Blue and plum (purple) were obvious....did not notice a silver color but the lighting wasn't great.
