Rapid Fire Pearl or Tropical Storm for drying lanes
« on: April 25, 2009, 09:17:59 AM »
Looking for a ball to go along with my T-Road Pearl for when the lanes start drying up.....something that will get through the heads better than the T-Road Pearl...and maybe a little less backend....I have access to either the rapid fire pearl or a tropical storm for cheap.

The Rapid Fire Pearl will have more backend.T-Road Pearl would be the better choice of the two.

RFP has the R2S cover which is a stronger cover than the Trops have. Unless there has been a change, the Tropicals still use the Reactor cover. Reactor just a few years ago, was Storms strongest cover.

With all of that being said, you have RFP with better tires and better motor (slightly higher diff-same RG for 15 lbs) and the Tropical with weaker tires and weaker motor.

The Tropical should be the better solution. You can drill the RFP down somewhat to get thru the front better, but it will stick pick up stronger on the back than the Tropical.

Stick with the Tropical. The other two are just too strong as a whole to be used on drying lanes. I'd recommend a 5 inch Pin to PAP distance, because Tropicals can be sneaky strong for the price point. the long distance will help tame the ball down.

To be honest, if you have a rev rate above 275 or 300, please don't rely on the Rapid Fire Pearl for lanes that are dry.  My RFP is a monster, only outhooked by my 2nd Dimension.  If you don't mind dropping the coin for a new one, try a Street Rod pearl, they do the same job the Tropicals do, only they hit harder from my experience...
