Reign delivery date moved back to 9-24
« on: August 27, 2009, 10:08:00 AM »
Bowlingball.com shows the delivery date of the Reign is now Sept 24. I would think this is across the board for all distributors. Oh well ..... gotta wait an additional three weeks. Kinda sucks, really been looking forward to this ball since it was first announced.

I drilled up our pro-shops VIP ball last week.  This ball is extremely strong off friction and a dart on oil.  Reminds me a lot of the T-Road Pearl.  The factory 1500 polished surface is hit or miss for me, so I'll be adjusting the surface to try and even out the reaction.

Layout: 45 x 4 1/2 x 70

I've been wanting to get this ball for weeks now to fill a hole in my bag that's been exposed by the dry heads and midlane I'm fighting the 3rd game every night in league this season.  Last night I was talking to my friend who works part-time at the pro shop I frequent, and I lamented the fact that the Reign was delayed.  "Really?  I didn't know it was delayed.  We've got one in the shop right now."  "Seriously?"  "Yeah."  I immediately went over to my ball driller and told him I'll be in tonight after work to punch it up!  Still not 100% sure on what layout I'll be using.  I just talked to Victor at Storm on the phone (great guy, by the way, very helpful!) about layout advice.  If the pin is long enough, I'll probably be doing a 5" pin to PAP layout with a short pin buffer, it'll probably end up putting the pin about 1.5" inches above my fingerline, CG stacked underneath.  However, for this to work I'll need a longer pin, so we'll see how that turns out.

I get the same problem with every single Storm/Roto ball that's polished out of the factory -- it's just way, way, way too shiny out of the box for the way I throw the ball.  Sanding off the polish and applying your own coat of polish to your liking should really bring the ball to life and even out the over/under look.

It probably has to do with fact that Storm cannot keep up with the production of the Fast and Furious demands.

@JMORRIS - Have you used this layout before, looks like a layout that would do exactly what you described.

Yes, I have.  It's my favorite layout these days.  I am a low track, high rev, lefty, which makes this layout approx. 45 x 4 1/2 x 70.  All my honor scores the past two seasons, except one, have been with a Rapid Fire, Agent and Brunswick Avalanche Solid, with this same layout.

For me, this layout helps get the ball rolling and make the backend more controllable.

Every Storm ball I have used with the factory surface at 1500 polished has required a surface change.  This ball seems to fit that mold too.

It's a great looking ball on the lane and hits the pins with authority.  I can't wait to use it some more.
