Reign of Fire
« on: February 04, 2010, 11:55:20 PM »
Well I received my Reign of Fire from Buddies Pro Shop on Tuesday and I must say that this is the strongest piece of equipment I've ever thrown. I've had a problem lately because of my speed getting inside early on a fresh pattern, but man I could throw this ball with reckless abandon from way inside on a fresh pattern and it still bumped flawlessly back to the pocket.

I could only use it for a few frames of the first game before I ran out of lane, which is fine since I intended to use this for sport shots anyways, but it's always nice to play with the new toy.

Just a note that this is a heavy oil house shot. Our center got pegged by the local association for putting down a pattern that wasn't legal. So, now that they got caught, the last month and a half has been the great flood at our center, but the ball still performed flawlessly.

For me the ball hooked more than the Invasion, and at the price point you can't really beat it.

How were you all able to get the local association to come in ? I'm just curious because I think our center is doing the same thing. Do they also check racks ? I was just wondering because at our house there is a high amount of 7-10 splits as well as others. It would be nice to see the actual process of a lane technician checking pin placement from the racks. Our center has the lanes checked each year. They close the alley for about a week. I just wonder if the check all lanes or maybe every 5th one. Maybe my bowling alley is the only one that leaves lot's of pocket splits. Thanks for any positive input

A couple of the better bowlers in the center made a complaint, because it was getting ridiculous. I mean I'm a good bowler, but I was averaging 238, and historically I average around 228. The 238 wasn't even the high average. They contacted the local association President and he came out and ran the tapes. They were pretty bad, I think someone said that it was 14 to 1.

Reign of Fire for me, especially if you already have plenty of hand.

hmm...... didn''t anticipate that one.. I had been thinking the Reign of Fire was a medium oil ball at best.. guess I was wrong! So the Reign of Fire is alot earlier then the invasion then i take it?

Just a reminder the Reign of fire is 1000 Abralon OOB, the Invasion is 4000.  So yes with both balls out of box the Reign of Fire should handle a large amount of oil without issues.  Take the Reign of Fire to 4000 and it turns into a GREAT benchmark ball that fits in the middle of the storm lineup.  Just like the T-Road Solid, the Reign of Fire is Very tuneable to your needs.

Yeah, I agree with Britton the ball is very responsive to surface changes. A great benchmark ball if you want to tame the ball down. If you took an Invasion down to 1000 it's the same strength as the Reign of Fire, but why pay so much more for a ball that does the same thing. The only thing I noticed is that they get down the lane differently. A lot can be said about how the Invasion retains energy even at any surface.

Personally I won't throw anything above 2000 dull and 1000 w/polish...I've never been a fan of how much 4000 tames any ball unless the lanes are the sahara desert.

4000 is real nice when you have the release to make the ball dance.

Going by what I see in your video the ROF is very early, yet very lazy on the backend.  I''d be very interested to see how it performs on a heavier shot at 4000 abralon.  1000 abralon is light years away from 4000 abralon.  I''m not saying the ROF is a dud.  I just refuse to believe that it is a bigger beast than the Invasion at the same finish on a heavier pattern.  At least without video evidence.

I too recieved my RoF jus the other day and had it drilled today. I haven''''t thrown the Invasion but I do have a VG. At OOB this thing outhooked the VG. I was not expecting it to do that. So I had Pro Shop guy hit it with a 2000 Abralon pad and what a difference. It has a very smooth roll. I myself seem to think I might still need to hit it with polish to use it when the lanes break down and the VG isn''t cutting it. But I must agree with Moto....This is a bad ball!!!!!
