Replacing an Ace
« on: August 25, 2006, 07:06:32 AM »
BRers,

I have been struggling with exacly how to replace my X-Factor Ace for the past few months, and I have come down to three possiblities.  I have used my Ace for the past year or so as my medium oil control ball or longer oil pattern ball.  From my perspective I am looking for a ball that is at least as strong as my Agent.

My original thought was to polish a Double Agent.  Jeff Carter has repeatedly said in this board that he doesn't recommend that as he thinks the ball OOTB is a great Trifecta replacement ball.  I am feeling beat into submission with that point and I have resigned myself to use the Double Agent as a heavy oil control ball.

The other answer I keep hearing is for me to get a Pyro.  My concern with that is that the Pyro seems to have more length than I want and the overall reaction seems to be too close to my Ragin' Banshee.

So, other than looking to a different manufacturer (which isn't out of the realm of posibility) my last thought is to go get a new Ace for this use.  My only other thought is that maybe a Paradigm-based polished pearl particle ball may be coming this fall.

I am looking for some voting here.  Please let me know if you would polish a Double Agent, get a Pyro, get a NIB Ace, or is there another medium-strong pearl particle out there that would fit in nicely as a control / longer oil companion ball to my Agent.

Well the NIB Aces are still out there in case you need to get one.  Also, you are right, there could be a particle pearl Paradigm coming.

I don't recall the seller, but there are about 5 NIB Aces on ebay right now, starting at $9.99  Got my eye on one.

IMO the Pyro is more on the backend than the Ace and not nearly as controlled. If you are looking at different companys, I hear the Track Machine is similar in reaction to the Ace.

Green--I have a Double Agent that is like you are thinking of. It is lightly polished, pin above ring with the cg kicked out slightly. It is the most versatile ball that I can remember.

Hmmmm... Maybe I have two Double Agents... one polished and one OOTB?

I had the Pyro and an Ace, the Ace is NOTHING like the Pyro and the Paradigm is like an Ace on tons of steroids.

I think I've decided to get another Ace.  I have a Double Agent waiting for me to drill it up and I think I'll leave that ball box condition and use it where my Trifecta worked.

Yea i am having the same problem. I have to retire mine soon, and I am definately not throwing it out though(I have my two highest games w/ it, 298 & 280)But I am right now thinking i will just replace it w/ another ace. I was paying attention to this forum and i have come to the decision that he has, now what to get first, the Double Agent or the Ace??????????????

Want both, but need the money for one until i can come up with that answer!
