Trifecta vs. Current Line
« on: June 20, 2006, 01:53:21 AM »

Hey all,

How do you think the Trifecta compares to the current high-end line?  I have seen people say they really like it.  What do you think?

The current high-end line that consists of one ball, the Agent?    I'd say it doesn't really compare.

I was also factoring in the Paradigm and the Passion.

Actually the current high end consists of the Paradigm, the Passion, and the Agent - with the Double Agent on the way.

The closest ball to the Trifecta in the current lineup is the Passion.  The Passion is a bit stronger in oil - but the ball motion is different.  The Trifecta is a solid partical ball and it is smoother than the Passion while the Passion has may have the strongest snap in heavy oil I've ever seen.

Personally I can't wait to see the Double Agent.  If I am reading the specs. correctly it should be a Trifecta / Ace replacement.

IMO, the Diablo is about the closest thing to the Trifecta. The Passion is about 2 steps above the Trifecta in oil handling and boards of movement. The Passion is much more ball than the Trifecta. I never really thought of the Trifecta as a true oiler, maybe medium/Heavy but, IMO the Passion is an oiler.

I would agree on that with the Trifecta. It wasn't a heavy oil ball. It's more of a heavy medium. It's still a great ball, however. The vertigo was the heavy oiler. Now it's the Passion. You need a heavy oiler with you just in case, but more and more heavy oilers are being used less and less on a weekly basis. Just my opinion. The double agent looks okay, and should be a good replacement for the Trifecta. Good movement, but controlled.

I'm a little lost with this thread... Diablo and Vertigo stronger than a Trifecta????  Passion 'two steps above' Trifecta when it comes to handling oil?  Whaaa?  Sorry guys, but you must have no hand in the ball to come to that conclusion.  Until Storm came out with the Passion the Trifecta was one of if not the strongest ball in oil they ever made to date.  Particle balls need a certain amount of revs. to be effective, so maybe when you throw a stronger particle ball like a Trifecta it could be sliding out?

I own a Vertigo and a Trifecta, and I have thrown a Passion (decided for me it was overkill).  Here is my summary on a 40ft. 8 to 8 house pattern -

Passion starts turning late in the midlane and turns REAL hard.  Strongest of the three.  If you put speed and revs. this is probably the ball for you.  Anything under 15 mph this ball took off on me even in soup!

Trifecta gets rolling earlier than the other two and has a smooth turn and hit.  I use this ball on heavier - longer oil patterns.  The Trifecta is about 2-3 boards weaker than the Passion but the longer the pattern the closer they are.

Vertigo's initial reaction is similar to the Passion, but its overall turn is not as dramatic.  This ball is good for shorter (35ft or so) heavier oil patterns or medium to heavy on longer patterns.

On longer oil the Vertigo is about 2-3 boards weaker than the Trifecta.  On shorter patterns the Vertigo and the Trifecta are about the same overall hook, but the Trifecta looses a little energy in the backends.

Too many variables in some of this comparison. Also the difference in coverstock (reactive vs Particle) also giving different reaction and hook shape. In our neck of the woods the vertigo seemed to push a bit longer and a more defined move than the trifecta which was a nice arc. The passion had more overall strength than both. I believe you might be splitting hairs. All three balls are of quality and have there place in the line. I would expect the double agent cover to be milder than all three of these. That core shape of the agent series(lightbulb-tweaked diff) has always been very versatile across many of the different ball companies and the covers they have put on them.

Lefty,

You may be right - I may be splitting hairs but this thread hit on a couple of my personal pet peaves.  I guess I get caught up in these 'what ball is better / stronger / etc.' discussions where the type of hook a ball generates is ignored.  Also, when you are trying to match a ball with a condition people pay close attention to oil volume but ignore length.  If you are seeing more 'movement' with a Vertigo your house pattern is most likely shorter (32-36ft).

Maybe the stongest Ball "Storm" has made to date but, their are ALOT stonger oilers on the market to be used on true heavy oil. On a Medium Heavy shot the Trifecta worked well but, heavier than that or that shot with carrydown, you can forget about it, its going to slide. I have more than ample hand in the ball and I know what a true oil condition is and when one should use such a ball. As far as the passion being 2 notches above the Trifecta, you have to consider the Passion is at 500 grit, has a stronger core, and stronger cover than the trifecta. The Trifecta is listed at 800 grit but, I can tell you it aint 800 grit. Its much finer than that. One may argue that the Trifecta is particle, Storm is the only company that I like thier particle balls. Why? Because they dont act like particles. Most Particle balls hook about the entire lane and dont have a strong backend, Storm Particles are cleaner up front and can turn a corner. Not what you want for ture oil! Great for medium Heavy though.

I found the trifecta with a smooth box finish handled oil very well. later on i did polish mine, and with the passion coming along i later did polish the trifecta higher and used it very successfully on medium wet drys alot.

as for a heavy oil ball in the line right now, the double agent is probably going to my oil for the heavier stuff, my passions have been very good for heavy patterns that break down and create carrydown or hold area.

Hmm, this is all really interesting.  I've noticed that people seem to debate particle balls a lot.
