Any Virtual Energy owners with fast ball speed??
« on: September 14, 2009, 09:15:27 AM »
Out of curiosity I looked online at all the demonstration videos of bowlers throwing the Virtual Energy but the only problem is they throw at medium or slow pace, so does anyone own this ball with a faster ball speed? I wouldn't mind getting details on how the ball works for bowlers that throw a little harder than the dudes in the vids. I just ordered a Virtual Energy and a Fast to add to my arsenal with the Rapid Fire Pearl and Columbia White Dot.

If you gotta know, I'm a palm bowler, cranker, and throw high ball speed. Any input would be appreciated. If nothing else, I will try and post a vid with the Virtual Energy just for another demonstration for faster bowlers

you shouldnt have a problem with the VE it reads the lanes alot smoother then the VG i throw between 18 and 19 and its really a bit too much for me on a ths it works really well on the deeper angles and on longer patterns the fast however you should really enjoy it shines when the lanes are broke down and heads are fried

My rapid fire pearl is great all around. I needed a heavy oil ball and a back up when the lanes get fried. Mind if I ask what your layout is?

i throw anywhere from 17 to 21mph and the VE is the first ball out.  it is drilled pin below my ring finger.

My line is:  setting it down around 14,  10 at the arrows and around 5-7 and the bp.  I can also tighten it up and play more of a straight show down 9 (with a lot of speed)

Interesting... pin down at the thumbhole? Lemme know how that goes when you try it lol. Your first ball sounds like it's more for earlier hooking, just my guess. I'll be going for the pin above the fingers for a longer skid and snappier reaction, kinda like my rapid fire pearl. Once I can get another look at my RFP I can tell you the specs of cuz I don't know it off hand lol.

And thanks snowspike, I'm just about the same as you on the line except I'm a few boards farther right, rolling anywhere from 12 to 5 boards at arrows to the 1 to 5 boards at break point. Surely with the Virtual Energy I'll have to move a few boards left at the start and still try to break at the 1 to 5 board.

So I thought I'd write an update. My Virtual Energy and Fast arrived last week, got'em drilled and tested them on Sunday. Like I said, Fast was meant for back up (dry lane) ball and VE meant for heavy oil ball... funny thing too because the reverse happens... VE turns out to be my back up ball and Fast turns out to be my biggest hooking ball yet! LOL. Although the resutls aren't too accurate because I bowled on dried, carried down lanes, but it was enough to tell me that my fast and rapid fire pearl were too snappy and my VE was just right.

So I have yet to test them on fresh lanes this Friday night in leagues. I love the smell of the balls btw lol. Fast smells like CHERRY TWIZZLERS NIBS!!!

I throw pretty fast with a decent amount of revs.  My VE is drilled 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.  It allows me to keep the ball outside much longer and peels off the spot for a strong angular backend.  I'm actually thinking about picking up a 2nd one with the layout I have on my Virtual Gravity for I need a a ball that is a bit weaker on heavy oil.

You may be the better bowler, but my car would blow the doors off of yours.

Hmm interesting I looked at your VE on your photobucket page and i notice your "key" is practically in the same line as your pin and cg. Exactly what does the key signify??? My pro shop guy told me the key should be in line with the pin and cg but mine is about 1.5 inches off to the right and he said something about the ball gonna be in a very stable position or something like that. (Not that I'm complaining because the ball works awesome for me as it is)

Oh and I finally bowled on a pair of fresh lanes with a buddy and tried out the fast and VE. My buddy was amazed how hard these balls can snap even riding off the edge of the lane lol and the odors are so strong that ppl can smell'em from 10 feet away!

Key signifies the MB (Mass Bias) location.  Assymetric balls usually have the MB marked on them.  1 & 1/2 inches isn't out of the norm.  I think 3 or more inches is considered pro CG or a blem ball ball to some.  Depending on your particular layout, a balance hole may be required w/the cg being out of line.  I have a pro-cg ball that has the cg out of line to the left.  And for a righty, it didn't require a balance hole w/my layout.
