a question about a storm
« on: September 06, 2006, 12:38:24 PM »
i have resently gotten a storm X-factor duce. well its single drill pin unfer ring. i love the way the ball rolls and it hooks hard, and i love it. i went to my pro shop and asked him could he plug and redrill and he said he could but the ball is three years old and has all ready been resufased and would i really want to spend money into it. well my question is that if i get him to plug the fingers and thumb can we still leave it pin under ring?, the reason i ask is because when i wanted to move the thumb up he said i couldnt because my cg need to be in my palm and if i moved the thumb up it would be illegal. and would it be worth it to plug and redrill? sorry it was so long.

thanks

if u only plug the thumb, basically where he would have to drill your thumb would make it illegal. probably too much thumb weight. plug the whole thing, put your fav drilling on it and let i rip. if he won't do it, take it somewhere else. thats what u pay him 2 do. let him know that u don't want to or can't tie up a bunch of money for a new piece, otherwise you would already have done that.

LOL...what the hell is a "VG"?

Please, slow down when you type and use proper abbreviations

(all in good fun....no offense intended).

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've bought tons of used balls and frequently just plug the thumb to effect a span change. Often times the finger pitches are the same or very, very close to my specs (a 1/16th of an inch in the fingers lateral pitch isn't going to make a noticeble difference). This is of course if the ball has been fitted for 31/32" inserts.

However, your driller should be well versed enough in the dynamics of a bowling ball layout to know that he can compensate for any illegal static weights simply by drilling the fingers or thumb deeper and/or drilling an x-hole.

As for Pin to Pap distance, I've utilized the vast majority of my used balls with the layout they came with and for the most part they reacted just as they should (i.e. pin above ring, below, leverage, etc). Many people's paps are very similar.

The poster already likes the reaction of the ball so a full plug job simply to lay the pin to pap out is unnecessary.

You know, I think I remember reading that rule about the CG being one inch from the center.  I can't remember where I saw it though.

I don't think that passed.  If it did, it wouldn't matter as the ball would be grandfathered - nobody would be able to prove when it was drilled.  If it does matter then I know a ton of people in my league that are gonna be p!ssed!

if that is true, then i have a couple illegal balls. i also read on here they tried to ban weight holes. my guess is that those 2 things would be put together into one ruling package, and the weight hole band obviously isnt passed.

i read somewhere and was told by my proshop that the 1 inch cg and no weight hole rules were rejected.they were proposed at the same time as the USBC logo on the balls as of 1/1/06 but that rule was adopted.
