Room for a Hyroad??
« on: May 13, 2010, 11:58:36 AM »
I have seen this ball a bunch of times and every time I see it I am very impressed.
I've read that this ball is very smooth and arcing but have also seen it in person have a big booming backend.

Changing my stuff around and wonder if I have a place for it.
Right now I have...

Mammoth
C-system 3.5
sidewinder
black widow pearl
creature s40
ebonite smash
neptune

Where would the hyroad fit and what would it replace?
I'm thinking somewhere around the sidewinder / widow pearl area.
My widow pearl just doesn't have the stuff it used to have so I'm hoping the hyroad could replace it. I'm not sure if the hyroad would be as angular though which is something I liked in the widow pearl. Maybe replace the Sidewinder?
From what I think, it might fall right in between the two as far as reaction.

Any experts out there?

all depends on what you do with surface. i will say the hy-road for me is the most versatile ball on the planet. i have two, one pin down with 2000 abr by hand. great mid lane with very nice smooth arc off the spot. other is pin over ring OOB. goes little longer quicker off the spot but still has that great arc on the back part of the lane. over the last year these two balls have been my bench mark, on a house shot 70-80% of the time they never leave my hand.
i would say as far as ability to handle oil it would fit between 3.5 and winder, closer to the 3.5 than winder.

That strong?? I was thinking it was more of a medium oil ball.
Are you basing that on the 2000 abralon finish you use.
What about 2000 or 4000 polished??

J_w,
I throw a little like you, 18-19 MPH, about 380-390 RPMS, don't tilt but am more up the back then around the side. I love my Hy-Road, just look at my little FIGJAM thread, lol. For me it is more of a medium to medium-oily ball. Mine is OOB with the pin at about 1:30 above and right of the fingers. I have used it on fresh THS at our State Tournament this weekend and used it during my second shift scratch league, so it can cover a pretty big spectrum of conditions. I haven't thrown a lot of Brunswick's newer stuff, so I am not sure how it compares to them, but if you have a chance, the funds, to get one, id say get one and find a place for it.

That is almost what I am thinking.. I have seen and heard it is such a great ball that I might just get one and see where it will fit.. and make room for it.

not saying its as strong as the 3.5 but i do think the hy-road is way stronger than the winder OOB. agree with jorge 300 if you want a ball that is going to cover alot of typical house patterns you see and sport stuff awesome ball!!!
this piece has been in the line-up for storm going on its 3rd year. (i think) i spoke with schlem in Vegas in January and he was saying at that point they had no plans on ending it because people are still buying it.

Well I told my driller to pick one up for me with a long pin. Will probably put a 4 1/2 to 5 inch pin to pap near the VAL with the weight set up so I can pop a weight hole in the lower quadrant if I want to tweak the reaction.

Unless anyone has any suggestions.

I have my creature that will be weaker and smooth.
I have a smash that is weaker and angular.
I have the C-system that is strong in oil and will be however I release it.
