Whats better for a medium volume house shot?
« on: April 18, 2009, 07:13:29 AM »
I can't seem to choose between either a Shift or a Top Agent. The top agent is an overseas secret agent. I'm just looking for one ball to use in the summer league i will be joining, and for practice, rather than using my tournament/sport shot arsenal to bowl on a house shot. Just want to get some opinions.

Probally the shift because my Secret Agent is actually drilled weaker than my shift and is still stronger. So for medium oil i would use or purchase a Storm Shift.

Agree with MR300.  Shift is a great all-round house shot ball.  On a heavy oil house shot it will work great as a down and in ball and as the shot breaks down it works equally well banking it.

well, i went ahead and decided on the top agent and got it drilled. It was only $152 with the grips and Vise It. It had a long pin so I had it drilled with the pin almost above my middle finger and the cg right next to my thumb to the right. I'll let you guys know how it rolls tomorrow. BTW, i decided on the top agent going off of how strong my mighty shift is compared to my secret agent.

yeah, i think it was a 5" pin. It should still be fine though, since i'm not expecting anything spectacular from the ball.

Cool, dude! Definitely report back on your experience with it. Let me know how it kicks back in the rear! I've been trying to get something to come back at the end for awhile now, and haven't found something worth my while.

    Good luck!,

My shift is 5.75 x 5.5 and it is my benchmark ball on house shots. Surface is 4000 abralon and if they keep getting drier i'll put a little xtra shine on it. Plays well up the boards and with enough oil plays inside angles with an awesome strong arc.

so i went and practiced on a fresh house shot at my local house. This ball goes long and flips hard, but still remains predictable, unlike some other flippy equipment i've had in the past. Its at 4000 abralon right now, and i think im gonna take it down to 2000 abralon to take some of the edge off the backend. Overall im glad i got it.

If you are looking for something that is really good on medium oil, and just a very good all around ball, get the Hyroad. I shot 755 with it my first 3 games out of the box. It is an awesome ball!!

so tonight i went and practiced at another local house that hs brand new AMF synthetics and lays down alot of oil for their house shot. taking it down to 2000 abralon helped alot, but i will be taking the surface down to 1000 abralon because the ball still went a little too long before making its move, leaving me alot of 10 pins. I figured i would have to since the pin is nearly 6 1/2" from my PAP. I'm just having to adjust the surface to bring the breakpoint back to me.

yeah, you may be right, but i would prefer to play around with the surface befor punching a weight hole in a ball.

Of those 2, definitely the shift, the Secret Agent would be a little much for medium oil house shot unless you have alot of ball speed or are "rev challenged".
