Shift cracked
« on: March 29, 2007, 12:18:02 AM »
Bought a Shift about 5wks ago and noticed a crack in between the middle and ring finger. Yesterday, my driller said to keep bowling with it so it cracks more so he can get it replaced for me. As it is now, it could actually be fixed.

Think this one was a lemon as I take good care of it and I don't roll this ball that much... put about 10 full games on it as I primarily use the SA and T-Road Pearl.

I am experiencing a similar problem with mine.  I got mine about 3 weeks ago, drilled it pin above the bridge.  I crack developed from the pin to my ring finger about a week after drilling.  It is now cracking from the pin in the other direction as well.  I bought mine online so I'm not really sure what to do with it now...

I had always loved and thrown nothing but storm balls until I had trouble with paradigm cracking like 5 times and then I started looking into other companies and have since switched to throwing primarily all ebonite stuff but was really thinking about going back to storm but now another round of cracking balls scares me off again!

I just went baclk to Storm again...
Don't tell me they have cracking problems?
I heard some of their equipment was cracking a year ago, or so.

I just drilled a Special Agent, and a Shift (yesterday).

I do believe these are rare cases...and may not be problems related to the ball itself...

I know a bunch of guys that throw storm only 1 of them has had a ball crack out on them (a first run Paradigm) other than that a little bit of cracking around the finger holes but that happens w/ every company (to people that use grips anyway... never heard of somebody w/ out grips having there ball crack around the finger holes).

    Thanks guys...makes me feel better!

My buddy Jim Scott, just shot his 2nd 300 with his Spit Fire.
His birthday was yesterday, he turned 71.

I'm thinking of picking up a Spit Fire.

I've been throwing Storm forever and the only issue I've had is with an Original Paradigm and an X-Factor ACE.  Both developed small hairline cracks around each finger hole(drilled with inserts) immediately after drilling them up.  But to this day, neither one have gotten any worse.  In fact, I threw the Paradigm last night and shot 2 series of 703 and 719.  Obviously the small amount of cracking doesn't affect the balls performance.  But then again if you can get Storm to replace it they normally don't hesitate to replace bowling balls with defects, there Customer Service is second to none.

Good ball? More like one of the best Storm balls made! I love mine so much that it sees more use than my Black Widow. The Spit Fire has a control drilling and is probably my favorite ball of all time. Oh yeah, the smell is the best too. Apple cinnamon!

sometimes cracked balls can be blamed on drillers(bridge to thin, pin to close to fingers, didnt bevel/sand holes)

Cracking here with a ThunderStruck Solid with approx 15 games now, and it cracked with less than a dozen. Talked to driller and storm, looks like I'am SOL, unless I send it back to Storm.

i would just plug it and redrill the fingers in it.  That is a common spot on the ball to crack, with only 1/4 inch between holes it becomes a weak spot.  It will not effect the ball at all just in asthetics.
