Ball Question
« on: April 01, 2007, 05:58:04 AM »
Hi guys

Looking for adivce for a new ball and want to make it a Storm.

Basically a house I am bowling league at next year has OB outside 8. Yeah I know, pretty bad. I'm bowling this place for a challenge instead of the usual boring THS crap.

If I keep my breakpoint inside the lanes can be scored on, but the head oil dries up pretty quick going direct at them. I can get into 20, no problem, throwing a Jolt Pearl 4 1/2" pin up, keeping my break point around 11-12. When the heads go playing 20 I cant get left without placking and the angles I have to play make the pocket narrower.

What Im looking for is a ball to play with that will give me length and backend recovery, but that wont hook in the front. The Jolt Pearl just isnt enough ball playing deep inside. I also can't have the cover too strong because the surface is old AMF HPL 9000 with low volume. I guess it might need a trick layout.

Hit me up with some suggestions!!

I would go with a stronger core in the Storm line. The T-Road Pearl and the T-Struck Pearl can clear the heads as easily as the Jolt, and will have a stronger finish because of the stronger cores.

I would go w/ a T-Road pearl it will clear the fronts with no trouble and have plenty of energy for the back end.  Despite being a ball that reacts quickly to the dry it very controllable.  I love mine and have it drilled 4.5 x 3 w/ and x-hole under my pap, its also great w/ 1000 grit on it (abrilon sure I'm spelling it wrong).

T-Road pearl - length and backend recovery.
I have mine drilled to be longest ball in my bag.
R2S coverstock is excellent.

You did not say, but if the backs are clean, another "trick" to consider is sliding the pin closer to your PAP (1 1/2 to PAP) to calm the ball down at the back. This might allow you to stay a little straighter depending on what your ball speed is like.

Just food for thought...

Sounds like in this case... It's not the ball, it's the BOWLER. Tweak your release and speed to compensate for this lane condition and it really doesn't matter what ball you use. Anything from Storm's medium oil lineup will suffice.

It's you... not the ball.

But still, if I had to make a ball suggestion I would say T-Road Pearl. No trick layouts needed. Keep the Pin UP and, depending on your rev rate, keep it farther away from PAP. Something in the 5"-6" range if you have the rev rate.

Good luck and BOWL UP A STORM!
