The fact that your flare is tight is not a bad thing, especially when you've seen a ball die due to "overflaring".
That being said, every ball, regardless of it's layout, or core design, or cover, NEEDS FRICTION TO HOOK. One of my Furys has a very tight track due to it's layout, so I put a little polish on it, moved outside on the lane and the ball carries everything!!
There's a misconception that every ball needs to be drilled strong to score. A pearl particle ball such as the Shift can be great towards the outside since it still has plenty of late movement, yet the particle load helps the movement to be less "jumpy" than a pearl reactive. Good luck.
