Triple-X vs. The Thing Returns
« on: April 09, 2004, 01:10:02 PM »
All biased opinions aside (since this is a storm forum), which ball will hook more between the two in medium conditions. I'm having a hard time deciding between the two. Anyone have experience with both of these ball? I'm kind of reluctant but at the same time anxious to give Dyno-thane a try.

Depending on your exact definition of medium oil, the XXX Factor should handle more oil, and probably hook more.  It is designed for medium to med/heavy oil, medium rg (2.52) and pretty high diff (0.055).  The Thing Returns is made for med/light to medium oil, a little higher rg (2.56) and less diff (0.045).

A profile would help a lot - rev rate, ball speed, PAP, tilt, type of lanes, amount and oil pattern...   A cranker would want a TR for medium oil.  A low level tweener like myself would lean towards the XXX.

I don't have a TR, but I have the Thing.  Great ball.

Hey, thanks for the help stider. I would consider myself a tweener also with average speed. I think I'm going to give the XXX factor a try because I like storm equipment. Just thought I'd try something new. But you know what they say: "Stick with what works".

I have both.  The XXX is drilled pin above the ring finger, about 4.5 from my PAP with the MB positive thumb.  Thing returns is 4 x 3.5.

The XXX definatley handles more oil and is more angular at the break point.  If I have a good release, I can get it as far out as I want if there's dry it will turn the corner and HOOK.  Great if you want to open the lane.

Thing returns is the ball I go to when the XXX is too much.  More of an arcing ball, very even.  Doesn't seem to over react if it hits dry early.

I would think that you could use either one just depending on how you drill it.  If I had put a weaker layout on the XXX it would fit where my TR is and vice versa.  They are probably my two favorites right now.
