Storm Arsenal
« on: October 20, 2009, 03:54:32 PM »
After attending a Storm/RotoGrip seminar today I am seriously considering putting together a 4 ball (plus plastic) league type "arsenal"  featuring Storm balls.

I am thinking the Fast and Furious are "must haves" and the Natural is getting a strong look as well.

I am considering the Virtual Energy or perhaps a Hyroad.

As I see it:

Natural for when they dry out and get squirty
Fast for the classic skid/snap reaction on lighter
Furious for the heavier patterns

The front runners for teh 4th ball are the Virtual Energy, Reign or Hyroad. Anything else I should be looking at?

Thanks in advance guys.

I'm one that likes a real aggressive pearl ball to start the night.  If I was going to use Storm equipment I would probably go Second Dimension (heavier), Reign (skid/flip), Natural (dry out), Ice Storm (spare).

If I knew I would be throwing on a heavy condition I would definately have a Virtual Gravity on standby.  The Reign really impressed me when I threw it.  Equipment that gets through the heads clean on a burnt out condition have a big effect on my wallet!

based on personal experience with the natural you could probably go label drilling with it and get a spare ball and dry ball in on. thats what i did with mine. works really well

In my opinion, drill a Reign to really jump off the back of the pattern when you need to go inside-out and create angle to carry.  It's a better choice for "the classic skid/snap" than the Fast -- the lightbulb core on the Fast keeps it from generating as much movement off the dry as you can get from the Reign.  And of course, don't be afraid to alter the surface on Storm's polished equipment since they come so shiny out of the box.  I sanded my Reign with 500 abralon, then went straight to 4000 abralon after that on a spinner, and finally applied a coat of polish by hand without the spinner.  It gets plenty of length even with this finish.

And don't sleep on the Hy-Road.  It's one of the most popular balls among every style on almost every condition for a reason.  What an amazingly versatile piece.

the virtual energy is a must have in any storm arsenal. it is the most versatile ball i have ever used. forward roll, spinning, up the twig, or deep. it can play anywhere. amazing piece.

same thoughts on the VE.

Mine already shows my track line burned in (guess its time for a resurface).

You have to have a Hy Road, in my opinion its the best ball I have had in years. Its so versatile and just seems to pick up in the right spot no matter were I'm playing on the lane. I'm drilling a fast tomorrow to go under it if I get a free moment at the shop.
