Something similar to the Special Agent?
« on: May 05, 2007, 02:01:27 AM »
I own a Special Agent and I love the reaction out of this ball. My special agent is very controllable even though it has an aggressive drilling. I am looking for a ball to have almost the same exact reaction as this ball, except I want it to be for when the Special Agent starts to leave corner pins (lanes drying up). I am a tournament bowler that needs a ball for the finals (once all the qualifying squads have bowled, no re-oil). At this point, the track area that I played with the special agent is too dry to play, so I would like to use another ball in it's place. I am thinking some sort of polished reactive. Vague, I know.

I am a lefty tweener, med/high revs, 17 mph, normal track, averaging 225 in tournament play.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

PS. I have the original agent drilled the same as this ball and it works wonders. Something similar to this would be great.

You might want to wait and see how the new Secret Agent is when it comes out.

Dill another Special Agent to compliment the one you have.  A weaker pin placement and polish it.

TRoad Pearl is cleaner through the heads, due to pearl polished, has a higher rg to rev later, same great coverstock.....but this ball is still strong, just later. Jolt Pearl may fit the need in later sets. The original Agent would have been my first thought and you have one already. I have a Shift with a trick TJ on it and this ball is surprisingly long and continuous and great with over under and carry down shots. I do not have the revs to normally drill a trick layout, but I bought this one off of Jeff Carter and since our spans are so close I kept the layout. Great ball too.  Al

My thought would have been the original Agent. But since you already have this BUT you do not say how this does not work to do what you want???

Theoretically the Agent should work; so what is it doing that does not fulfill your needs? That would give us a better idea of what to recommend.

I would have to say that the agent is a great match for me, however the agent requires me to play more of a swing. If I try to play the same speed and line as the special agent, I leave alot of corner pins. With the agent Ive had to move in and throw slow with more angle. I want a ball where I can stay in the same general vicinity (maybe 2 or 3 board move inside) as the special agent once the lanes dry out. I want there to be more backend than the special agent has right now, as opposed to the smooth agressive drilling of the special agent.

Jim,   After your response explaining the reaction of your original Agent, I feel another Special Agent with the pin above middle finger or 5 1/2 to PAP, but for sure pin above fingers, and polished. If polish is not your liking then at least a 4000 abralon and no polish. This should keep you in play in the area of the lane and maybe a couple boards inside, but will definitely give you more pop in the back where you want it. I have one pin under bridge, cg out, weight hole down and 1000 abralon. Second one is pin above middle finger, cg out some, and polished to same finish as Storms 1500 polish. Definitely shinier than 2000 abralon box. Have finished with 2000 abralon and then touched with Brunswick High Gloss lightly, and then maintained with Storms Reacta shine with great success.   What a diference between these two balls and yet same great read and carry.......You may want to wait for the Secret Agent...solid /pearl hybrid with same great core may be just as great.   Al

p.s.   I've always wanted to try two of the same rock, just set up and finished differently, and this set of Special Agents was the first. I like it. I usually start the set with the dull pin down and then move to the shihy pin over as soon as the first one leaves flat tens or moves too quick in the heads...great one two punch.

Jim,

Your Agent's reaction indicates to my mind that you'd like a ball that handles the same amount of oil as the Agent, but hooks less overall and with less backend. Based on that, my guess would be a ball somehting like the SpitFire or the Thunderstruck Pearl, but not the new T-Road pearl because that ball's cover is too strong, almost as strong overall as the Agent itself.
