Every ball vs. Every other ball
« on: March 06, 2007, 03:36:26 AM »
Hello,

This question goes out to those who have used both the Spit Fire and the T-Road, or have seen someone use both the Spit Fire and T-Road.  What differences do you notice about these two?

I have been talking with my pro shop and they are recommending the Spit Fire as my next ball to kind of round out my setup.  I was previously going to get the Thunderstruck Pearl but they are saying that it would be too similar to my Thunderstruck Solid (even though to me this sounds fine).  I am looking for something that will get further down the lane than my Thunderstruck Solid but still have some pop.  I also asked about the T-Road, but they again said it may be better to get a completely different reaction with a pearl since my other two are pretty similar.

When I look at the USBC Magazine's ball guide, it seems like the T-Road, Thunderstruck Pearl, and Spit Fire are the three options to choose from.

I have previously tried the Jolt Pearl, but that was definitely not what I was looking for.  No fault of the ball, just my bad for not doing enough research on it.

Fluff,
Two Questions:
Do you prefer to play straighter up the lane vs deeper?
Is the purpose of your next purchase going to be a compliment for your Special?

My opinion is that you get a T-Road if you prefer playing straighter up.  Or you get a Pyro if you want to move deeper inside.  I don't have a lot to say about the Agent except that I think it may be too much ball if used as a transition piece.

Oh yeah..and always ask your proshop folk for more info
Dan.

Yeah we already ruled out the Agent at the pro shop.  I am positive it is a great ball and I would love to have one but to me it seems like it would be a stronger version of the Thunderstruck I already have.  The Thunderstruck is more than strong enough for my needs though.

You are right though since the Thunderstruck is definitely my main ball, I am more looking for a transition piece or something to use when the lanes are totally funky when practicing.

I guess the reason why my pro shop steered me away from the Pyro was because they thought that the particles would smooth it out and make it too similar to what I already have.  However, if it is great on carrydown and will get down the lane and hold maybe that is the better one to get...

Oh yeah I didn't answer either of your questions.  I was going to paste in the part earlier where I said don't favor either/or but I forgot to put that part in.

quote:
As far as playing straight vs. swinging it out, I don't think I have a preference. Lately I have been playing the swinging shot more (and having more success) than straight but usually because ball reaction is screaming at me to play that line.

I always try playing straight first though. I guess there is a battle over which one is the A game and which one is the B game right now...

I have been doing better playing a hook lately but I would like a straighter option.  So yeah I guess that would lead me back to the original argument of Spit Fire vs. T-Road.  There seems to be positives for both but my pro shop was leading me more towards the Spit Fire.

You are definately in the right area of Pearlized shells..But to say which one is the best transition for the Thunderstruck is tough because they all hook just as much if not more than your Thunderstruck.

I guess I was thinking it is not a question of more or less hook but a question of reaction shape and how it gets down the lane.

My gut says Pyro but my gut isn't as smart as my pro shop.  I guess there is also the Venus.

Yeah ultimately I am going to go with what the pro shop suggests but I like to hear people's different takes on the stuff they have used.  Especially if it is in comparison to another ball.  It really helped me make the decision on the Special Agent and it turned out to be the correct decision.

I made a less informed decision on the Jolt Pearl and got burned.

Thunderstruck Pearl will do exactly what your for. It's one of the best balls on the market right now, and is stupidly under-rated. Pick one up you won't be disappointed.

I would say the same for the solid version.  But I think it is maybe because they are cheaper balls so maybe people assume they don't have the performance.  Oh well, their loss is my gain.

I guess this is a really tough decision which is why you can see my confusion on the topic.

Ok, I figured out what I am going to do.  I am going to line up all of these balls in a row and draw a name out of a hat in the pro shop and that will be the one.

Mr. Bunnie,

Of all the people on this board you overanalyze more than any of us.  Take a guess and go get a ball.  If you need a line up then go for it.

whatever your pro shop guys want to wheel and deal should be your choice, you are going to good with any of these choices.

If it was me the t-road pearl would be the choice because i think the carry is above average, i have only rolled it 4 games but 190 is my low game with that ball.

There all pretty similar, which does make it tough, but they do have there differences. The Thunerstruck Pearl is the weaker of the 3, midlane read and a strong backend reaction. Very versatile. The T-Road is stronger and all backend reaction, very angular which makes it a more condition specific ball. Spit-Fire has about the same hook potential as the T-Road and is stronger in the mids and smoother on the back then the others.

I think you should narrow it down to how strong of a cover you want, and then start researching something else, drilling.  You could pick the perfect ball for what you want to do, but a bad drill will ruin it.  Basically, you have this:

-Pyro: Slightly stronger and very smooth (not very jumpy)
-Spit Fire:  Slightly stronger with a bit more jumpy reaction
-Thunderstuck Pearl:  Similar hook, but a little more skid/snap
-T-Road: Stronger with more angularity

I think you will be fine with any of these balls as long as you get the right drill and give it a proper surface.  I'd talk about that more with you pro shop owner than I would anything else.  Go with the one you have the best feeling about, and make sure you take some time into choosing the proper layout.  Look at your previous successes and look at why that ball makes you successful, you will find your answers there.

Good point.  I am pretty sure of the reaction I want to get out of the ball so hopefully I will be able to explain that to the driller and they can enhance that in the drilling.  Luckily we have a few successes already so we can take those and use them as a baseline.
