Spitfire and Pyro surface question
« on: May 18, 2007, 07:58:48 AM »
Pyro is drilled pin above ring cg swung about 30 degrees OOB cover.  I'm looking for a little more movement.  What will taking the cover down to
about 800 do for this ball.  Same with the spitfire.  I hear so much about
the pyro being a good carry down ball but mine is more of a light medium ball.
What do you guys think?

Well taking the cover down all the way to 800 will definately give you a much earlier read and a more even reaction through the lane. It should be very noticable and my buddy actually has a Spit Fire pin above bridge, cg kicked out just a bit (5" pin to pap) and its at 1000 grit no polish and it reacts super smooth on medium +.

I'd suggest just lightly hitting the coverstock with a 1000 grit pad or so to get the shine of first and adjust from there, just knocking off the polish can make a huge difference.

Good luck and bowl up a storm!

I sort of agree with magicmike. I'd try taking the polish off of the Spit Fire before taking the surface down. I really like mine at 1500 OOB but with the shine knocked off. It's really predictable that way. If that doesn't work try 1000 before going to 800. My concern would be if you take it down to 1000 or 800 it may actually burn up and you'll be leaving all kinds of flat 10's. The Spit Fire seems to be at it's best if you can keep the break point around 40-42'.

Depending on the conditions you are bowling, try first knock the polish. I wouldn be suprized having the best results on this isue by sanding the ball to 2000 Abralon.

Thanks to all that replied.  I knocked the polish off
but have not had a chance to give it a try yet.  Bowling
on pba chameleon pattern.  Just a little to much oil for
it right now.
