I always hate to recommend balls but I like the way you think stone8. The Thunderstruck Solid is a good benchmark type ball too.
It's also pretty versatile because of it's blend of control and performance. I've played this thing anywhere from up the right gutter on oil to recently swinging the entire lane from the left gutter (never really been able to do that before) with it when the oil is gone.
