Dimension Reaction Change

I got my dimension when it first came out, after about a 100-150 games on it I noticed that you could leave a hand print on the ball with the warmth of your hand bringing the oil to the surface.  So I had the ball baked in a rejuvinator at a local pro shop and it came back to life.  
I am at the same amount of games again and it looks like its time to bake it again.  I clean it after every set of games and use simple green on it.  
Tuesday night I tried soaking it in a hot water bath but it didnt help too much.  I just wanted to know if others have seen this same result.

That is abnormally long for a dull ball used on oil. Many dull/matte finish balls need oil extraction after 50 - 100 games. I suspect that shell is similar to the RG Cell's shell, which was designed to last longer before oil absorption affects its performance.

I would suggestthe use of Clean and Dull every 25 - 30 games inbetween oil extractions. That may help extend the life of the ball between extractions even further.

so i just talked to another friend who has this same problem with the dimensions reaction dying..

he said that about 200 games after he got it it was time to rejuvenate it and it was back to its out of box reaction but it died again in half the amount of games so he rejuvenated it again reaction came back but after about 75 to a hundred games it lost  reaction again for him so he just gave up on it he keeps it clean after every set and owns his own spinner and abralon to keep its box finish always fresh so i bet this is not uncommon

Yes Charlest I never remember to keep track of how many games I bowl.  And since I have a few different balls I use It is not easy to figure out but just based on the reaction I know its time.  I will bake it and see how it does after that.  I might also switch to clean and dull as well.  Like I said I have just used simple green.  Thank you for your suggestion.

I like the dishwasher method over the bucket method myself.  Turn off the dry cycle if you try it.

I understand. I do also, have trouble tracking games per ball. Just use your best guess. Too early is better than too late.

Clean and Dull is really for special cleaning, once every so often. Unless you bowl on super heavy oil and use a really dull ball like 600 grit,there is not really any need to use it on a daily basis.

This is not a "problem" in the past 12 years or so. This is and has been the nature of resin balls since their introduction. It has gotten worse in the last 10 years because resins have been made more absorptive but you must also realize this is partly why they work so well.

Manufacturers, like Brunswick, have stated some standards for types of balls, for when they will need to have the oil extracted from them to maintain the same level of performance, as when the ball came out of the box. 50 - 75 games is almost normal and I am not just talking about Brunswick balls, but any brand.

If you wait until you have 200 games on the ball, you asking for trouble.

Additionally, balls should be thoroughly cleaned after each use and BEFORE you put them back into your bag at the bowling center.

Unless you're staff member or a PBS 20 tournament winner whose balls are replaced every 20 games by the manufacturer, you NEED to do this or just buy a new ball every 50 games.

This is just my recommendation for ball maintenance:

1: Clean after every set
2: Take back to OOB whether sanded or polished every 21 games
3: Oil extraction every 60 games

As an Ebonite/Hammer bowler this has not let me down.

If you have gotten 100-150 the first time(after oil extraction), and 100-150 the second time, you have no problem at all.

Well I have time today and the guy who did the oil extraction last time will be at the lanes tonight so I will have him work the ball again and rejuvenate it.  I will post and update about it when I get it back.

Well thanks to my buddy for extracting the oil and applying clean and dull and restoring the box finish to the ball.  It is now like new again.  I threw a 245 with it tonight and was able to move around the lanes and find different lines that finished.  So yes after a hundred games just get the oil extracted and use clean and dull like Charlest said and the ball will give you great results for a long time!!

You just had to take it for a 3000 mile "oil change" and minor tune up.

One thing that I liked about this ball was I could shine it and it was like I had bought another ball for my arsenal as it really got down the lane shined.
