Staffer Review of 2nd Dimension
« on: February 04, 2009, 01:17:24 AM »
Layout - 5 1/2 Pin to PAP by 4, no hole

I laid this ball out almost identical to my Virtual Gravity. Pin above my middle finger with the CG below my ring finger. Since the pin was only about 2.5 inches out, I went deeper with the finger holes.

I first used this ball on a house pattern and the pattern itself is extremely wet/dry. The first few weeks I was using a Hyroad with a similar layout and averaging about 240.

After a few practice balls with the Second Dimension I decided to hit it with a 2000 abralon pad to try and eliminate the over/under I was seeing. After a really bad first shot, I struck out for 290 and went front five the next game. I was just chasing the pattern left and shot 230 the second game. The last game I lost my reaction and was forced to get too deep with this ball. I lost my carry and left a couple of splits for 190. There was too much overall hook for this ball the last game.

Last night in my PBA Experience league we were bowling on the Shark pattern. Before bowling I lightly used a 1000 abralon pad on the Second Dimension. I just wanted a little more surface. I was very surprised at how well this ball worked on the Shark pattern. It gave me a great mid-lane roll and continued through the pins. I was able to chase the pattern left for the three games and bowled 670. I used my Virtual and Hyroad and a couple of fill shots and the Virtual was at least 3-4 boards stronger while the Hyroad was a different shape as it was more length and more angular down lane.

My first impression of the Second Dimension was very good. This ball gives me a similar reaction to the Gravity Shift, but with more control down lane due to the mica in the cover. It reminds me of the first Shift but clears the front of the lane better and is stronger. When the Virtual and Dimension are too strong or early, the Second Dimension will be the go to ball.

Nice review, Derek.

Do you know if they plan to release this cover on an assym ball in the future?  I know you are a staffer & not a developer, but just thought maybe you heard.  Only because I have a regular Shift that I bring with me every time I bowl.  Because, either my Virtual Gravity or Attitude Shift get to be too much at some point in the 2nd or 3rd frames.

Storm should release the Super Domination here. It is the Domination core with the 2nd Dimension cover! The video on HI_KO sports is awesome!

I have not heard if they plan on releasing this cover on an assym. ball.  If that is what you are looking for I recommend trying the Gravity Shift and if you need to hit it with abralon pads, touch it with 1000 or 2000.

The Second Dimension is a great addition to any arsenal.  It will give you a great step down from the Virtual and Attitude but a different motion than the Gravity and Hyroad.

Thank you!!  I do have a Gravity, but it seems that ball's shape, at least for me, is more of an arcier shape than my more angular Shift & Virtual.  Though my Shift is more angular than the virtual.  But I have the Gravity at box still & have never touched the cover.  I've kind of wondered what roughing up the pearl would do, so I just may take your advice & experiment.  Thanks again.

Thanks for posting!  The comparison to the Shift is interesting...  Big fan of that ball.
