Gravity Shift vs. Second Dimension
« on: February 01, 2009, 01:07:46 PM »
I currently throw a Gravity Shift and thinking about getting a Second Dimension. Is the dimension stronger than the Gravity? or Should I just stay with the Gravity because the Second Dimension will give me the same reaction? Any information would be appreciated.

From all the information presented i'd be willing to bet the Second Dimension would be stronger, I don't know if there would be that big of a difference but Riggs found a big one. I suggest checking out Riggs review on the ball.

Second is quite a bit stronger.. It obviously depends on how both balls are drilled.. I just drilled a 2nd up 2 days ago and its a beast..

For me the 2nd dimension hooks more down lane than the gravity.  Gravity is earlier.

With the new Mica in the SECOND DIMENSION they are just different. Also, cores are different.
To me, GRAVITY is sharper move but SECOND hooks more overall, especially is oil with the new Mica.
I need to drill a strong SD to get a really good comparison.

Gravity and Second are about the same overall hook but a very different ball shape / roll.  The Gravity is more of a typical asym. ball with an early roll and a strong arc at the end.  The Second has a sharper, later move for me.

The other difference it the cover reaction as Riggs says.  In general I would expect a Second to be used more where there is carrydown.  The new cover seems to have serious backend drive once it makes it's move.  I've never seen a pearl with the kind of drive through the pins as the Second.

I am using the Gravity for more medium to dry conditions when the shot opens up - while the Second seems to shine as a slight ball-down from a Virtual or Dimension when you need more angle at the breakpoint.

Probably looking forward to purchasing a ball when taxes come back. To get me through this and next season. I've had the Gravity since the release date. I don't know much about the specs of things, I just know the pin is almost touching my ring finger. My ball gets down the lane fine and makes a controllable move to the pocket not quite a snap but not a smooth arc either. I don't really crank the ball but I do put somewhat hand in it. I've had good luck with storm and pearl balls. I'm just looking for something that is a bit stronger where I can stay a bit inside and still knock out the corners. I've tried someones virtual and it was just to much snap at the end. The house I bowl at had wood lanes and after about 2 games the break down is incredible. Any other input would be great Thanks.

Well I have had a Gravity Shift for about a year (4x4 2" pin buffer) and I have a 2D (5x3 2 1/2" pin buffer) the 2D is 3 board stronger on a fresh THS. I still prefer my GS over the 2D on this pattern since the 2D forces me inside my comfort zone on the lanes.
