step down from special agent
« on: March 16, 2007, 09:38:10 AM »
I just bought a special agent at the nationals and really like it. What would be the best step down a agent or a shift. Would it make sense to put the same drilling in it.

step down imo would be a double Agent (higher Grit).

Also think the Double Agent is a good step down.

going by storm's own website, and from videos that I have seen, the double may hook less, but it is much earlier than the special.  the double is a proper oiler and wouldn't be a step down.

I would go with a weaker drilled shift, or more probably a spitfire or t-road.

t-road pearl, agent or spit fire take your choice of what is the best deal you can get for it from your driller. On mid line balls i believe it is better to buy locally than online unless your local shop is a gouger. The agent is winding down soon to be gone in the next few months, i am sure at bowl expo the new line will be out.

Double Agent is smoothier ball but not enough of a jump in my opinion, mine is box finish still and needs head oil to even not roll out.

btw i actually have all of these and the shift which is in my opinion a great ball or junk depending on the carrydown. I think the other balls listed are safer and cheaper bets for you good luck.

Wow, I can't believe noone has mentioned the original Agent, seriously that ball is just amazing and with the same layout it is a nice step down, same core, Reactor Pearl, its more of a rolly pearl and is great to switch to when the Special is too much.

The two best 'step down' balls for a Special Agent are the Agent and the Thunderstruck Solid.  The Agent will hook a bit more but both will do the job.

A Double Agent is absoutely not a step down from the Special - if anything they are different ball reactions for similar conditions.
