FIGJAM - 790 with Special Agent
« on: April 01, 2008, 11:19:27 PM »
Well, not quite an 800, but it is my highest series.  I can't take all the credit for this one since the lanes were stupid easy last night (though they did dry out quite a bit out of nowhere in the second game and through the third game, and the backend was tighter on the left lane).  I started with a Morich Awesome Revs in practice that had a good look, but by the 3rd frame of the 1st game it was burning up and left a weak 10 pin.  I put it down and pulled out the Special Agent and stayed with it the rest of the night.  Aside from that weak 10, I managed to miss it at the bottom of the swing once that game and left a 2-8 and covered it, 256.  Second game, high-flush 7 and a high flush 9 pin back-to-back when the lanes transitioned pretty quickly, 268.  Third game, strike, big 4 split, off the sheet, 266.

I've been doing pretty well the past three weeks or so.  I had a 776 about 3 or so weeks ago in the same league with the Special Agent, and since then in other leagues a couple 730s and a 720, and a ton of games in the 260s and 270s and a 289.  Despite somewhere around 100-150 games on this ball, the ball is still reacting like brand new.  The only maintenance I've done is clean after every set with Clean & Dull and hitting it a couple times with fresh 2000 abralon surface (I bowled on double oil a couple Sundays in a row, I needed some fresh surface for that!  It played almost like a PBA shot, absolutely no miss room.  And I still managed to be a ringing 10 and a stone 8 away from a 300 on that slop).

Ah yes, the usual question someone asks every time someone on this forum uses it.  It's FIGJAM -- "F*** I'm Good, Just Ask me"  The usual tongue-in-cheek warning for a thread where you just boast about a good score or something else most people probably won't care about.

Hey Dan, that's awesome!  I am actually back to using mine again also.  I hope someone gives a heads up before this one gets discontinued because it's definitely one to have an extra or two of.

I know what you mean.  I'm definately getting another one of these before they're retired.

Very nice bowling, congrats!

I watched your videos a little, and judging by your style—holding the ball low at the stance with a relatively short backswing, which helps with getting the ball to not over-react in the front part of the lane and with accuracy—it's only a matter of time before you get the elusive 800 series.

Keep up the good bowling.

Thanks.  Nice to hear someone say something positive about my form shown in the videos.  Normally people just complain that I can't hook the whole lane and I wear a wrist guard.  Nevermind the fact that I am throwing strikes on a variety of conditions...

There's always going to be naysayers and distracters, and usually they are the ones that don't have a versatile game, but oh, they can hook it a ton (as if bowling were scored on appearance points and not just actually pin fall.)

I think you have a solid game, especially for a young person.  Keep developing it and you will shut the naysayers by your shooting at the hand and not at the mouth.

Dan, Nice shooting.

I subbed last night.
We were talking about our highest series.
Out of five bowlers only one shot over 750
in their career.

And I'm one of the young guys at 61.

790 is excellent.

You're the young one at 61?  You whippersnapper!  Was this before or after they complained about you being a "damn kid" and told you to get off their lawn?

Thanks.
