As soon as I could get my hands on this ball I did. I did not just buy one either. Since I had both the Code Black & Code Red and loved those balls, I knew this was one ball I must get. Hoping I would get the same great reaction that I did before with the codes I could not wait to drill a Dark Code up. I laid my dark code out with a 55x4x30 and I was not disappointed. The first shot I rolled it on a THS – 41ft I saw the ball get through the mids extremely well and when it hit friction the ball did not just shoot left, but it continued through the pins with a ton of energy. I threw the ball 5 more games and could not believe how it has the same overall motion as the older codes but even better off the edges and cleaner. For sure one of the first balls out of my bag.

Review:
The Dark Code features a new coverstock ReX formulation that is the combination of two previous covers, the RS2 and NeX.  This new blend has bowlers enthusiastic about the skid/flip reactions that can be created. For your medium to medium/dry conditions the Dark Code is the answer.

As noted above, the Dark Code will shine in medium to medium/dry conditions. To bring to light a similar ball for 900 fans, the Black Ops quickly comes to mind. If you enjoyed the Black Ops, you will want to consider adding a Dark Code to your line up.

This one is truly for league night where you want to open up the lanes and create big angles.  This ball is ready to go with the OOB finish and into your bag. For those that like to scratch the ball up a bit a 3K pad has been doing the trick for a lot of bowlers. I was most impressed with the hitting power of this ball on a 41' THS pattern. You'll be hearing a lot about the Dark Code taking out pins this year.

As always, I would like to thank Storm for providing the equipment I use every time I step out onto the lanes and Logo Infusion for making sure I always look good no matter what! Today I will be bowling on a standard medium volume house shot. The Dark Code features the Rad 4 core found in all the previous code balls but is now wrapped in REX pearl. This direct quote from Storm explains the design intent behind the Dark Code. “Some bowling balls immediately sink their teeth into the lane in order to provide traction in oil. Others glide through the front part of the lane with ease, saving all their energy for an explosive backend reaction. But, what happens when you have a ball that’s capable of offering both?” What this boils down to is a high differential and lower RG core that wants stability as soon as you release it wrapped in a higher friction pearl cover. The REX cover takes the best characteristics of R2S, known for its longevity and versatility as well as a quicker response time from steeper angles; and combines it with the insane traction NEX produces. I’ve found that the Dark Code is truly the best of both worlds. I am able to trap the ball with closed angles and still have it slow down enough to blend the friction and with a small hand position I can open up my angles and allow the ball to respond faster off the friction once the pattern is more developed. I was able to use the Dark Code for the first time on a 47’ 3:1 sport pattern games 2-6 and it looked fantastic the whole time. Two days later in league I was able to throw it on our fresh house shot and started off with a spare then rattled off 14 in a row. When compared to the Parallax Effect, the Dark Code is a touch longer and more responsive down lane. Compared to the Axiom Pearl, the Dark Code is earlier and stronger overall. Storm's new Dark Code features a brand new coverstock formulation. The blend of NEX and R2S covers puts this ball in a unique spot in the line. Wrapping it around the RAD 4 core teams up a monster core with an incredibly dynamic cover to create big hook and a very unique read of the lanes.

NEX being the absolute top of the line in midlane read has created some of the most powerful balls on the market lately. R2S is the legend that keeps coming back because it seems to be a guaranteed winner no matter what core you use with it. The blend of these two covers has created motion that almost feels like an optical illusion. The Dark Code isn't early, but it sees the midlane. It's not snappy but you can't really call it overly smooth either. What it seems to do is give you midlane motion that never really seems to stop. The powerful RAD4 core gives it a big engine so you end up with a polished ball that is useful when there's oil on the lane, but doesn't slow way down. This allows you to keep the great continuation through the pins as you move left, without ever really losing the ability of the ball to see the mid-lane.

My first experience with the Dark Code was in league. To combat the summer heat the house had juiced up the middle of the lane a bit. This made them super cliffed because of how much the outside hooked. No problem for the Dark Code, it blended them perfectly. I was honestly very surprised that I was able to throw it because I usually end up struggling to get stronger balls down-lane on the house shot. I also often struggle with the weaker balls being a bit unpredictable because there is so much dry to the right. Dark Code opened up more area than I think I've ever had on that shot. It allowed me to control the backend without sacrificing carry.

I also had the opportunity to throw the Dark Code on a 44 foot challenge pattern. It was fantastic in the middle games where I would normally struggle in the transition. I was amazed at how much "get back" this ball had on the longer pattern. I felt like I easily had the most miss room right on our pair.

This is a ball that is a must for tournament bowlers. When you need to overpower more oil and have confidence on how your ball is going through the pins, this is the ball for you.

Hey everyone, I’m back with another ball review, and this time it’s for the Storm Dark Code and In 15 pounds this ball is wrapped in the REX Pearl Reactive Coverstock and comes 1500-grit polished with an RG of 2.49, Diff of .056 and PSA of .022.
What can you say about this ball that the name doesn’t already say? It’s a CODE BALL!!! As most bigger balls they get through the fronts very well and has a great reaction off the pattern. I have seen this ball work best from a longer medium pattern all the way to fresh lanes. The traction in this ball is much similar to that of the pervious code balls. It’s a great ball to and can follow the moves at least two zones before I needed a ball that didn’t boom off the spot.
