Looking for Dark Thunder users, layouts, reactions, and if the cover was left OOB or polished. Want to get one due for medium to light medium conditions, with carrydown on second shift league, but don't want to overlap with other equipment I use. Any help, or comments will be appreciated.

Mine is 5x5 (pin over ring) left in box surface. Ball is smooth and strong and I could not get the ball to over-react on the fresh. Having said that, I could not conceive of it being a light oil ball even with polish given the amount of track flare and overall hook front to back.
Compared to my polished Hot Rod Pro Stock, at least 5-7 boards stronger and much rollier.
Hope that helps.

Do you think a 5 X 5, Label drill would allow me to play inside the oil line, with a hook and set reaction on this ball? Use polish to get the length, and the house I bowl at doesn't clean backends often, so I still need it to finish.

I agree with Urethane games findings. I am bowling on a medium oil 36 foot blended pattern that my Dark Thunder is too early and strong for on most nights. Some nights the lanes play slicker and it works well when fresh but
when the oil really carries down my Flash Force drilled 4 1/4 x 60* works much better. My Dark Thunder is drilled 4 1/4 x 45* and worked best for me 1500 grit
sanded. By the way I use a Banshee the first few games on most nights and then finish with the Flash force.

I have mine lightly polished and there is NO WAY it's a light oil ball unless you want to stand on 40 and heave it across 18 all night. Strong & powerful arc to the pocket in medium-heavy oil, even with polish.

By Dark Thunder are you talking about the Black Thunder from 1996?

Dark Thunder is a brand new, limited release ball with the old thunder core and a Monsoon cover. This is not a weak ball.
My daughter owns one that she uses for her med-heavy to heavy oil ball... about 3-4 boards stronger than her X-Factor. I could not imagine any drilling or polish making this ball anything weaker than a medium oil ball.

Well now i dont have to start a new post! I just got mine from the mailman today, and im looking for suggestions of layouts. Usually on a 39 foot pattern walled at 5, with crappy worn out backends. 1/2 the time though im on 2nd shift carrydown.

Frodo Baggins has failed...George Bush has the ring...

Mine handles carrydown very well. It's lightly polished with the pin above my ring finger, CG in the palm and no weight hole. Gets thru the heads clean and hits HARD!
