STORM DOMINATION
« on: November 30, 2003, 09:37:02 PM »
It appears that Storm is taking over the PBA Tour. Storm manufactured equipment has now won five of eight stops. (Smith, Himmler, Jaros, Shafer, Healey Jr.,) Yes, Storm Products manufactures Dyno-Thane balls, so I am correct in pointing out Storm manufactured balls have been in the winner's hand five times.
It is gratifying to see a company like Storm do well. They defy the "corporate" attitude and their staff and equipment rule!

"Columbia/Track/AMF wins go together and Hammer/Ebonite wins go together"

That is exactly whay I am talking about. A win by a manufacturer is as such. Dyno-Thane and Roto Grip balls are manufactured by Storm Products. There is also the Storm brand name. The Storm brand name has won four times and Storm manufactured balls have won five times. This is absolutely 100% correct.

The one and only bottom line is that it's the bowler, NOT the ball.

As soon as you forget that, you are lost.

While it is very important to point out the talents of the bowler, the fact is that the ball the bowler used is equally important. That is the reason companies have staffers.
Ask Tiger how important equipment is.

Not the brand of equipment but the type of equipment must match up to the user and the condition.

The reason companies have "staffers" is strictly for marketing purposes. The reason they have testers is for testing. BIG difference.

Seriously, how do they defy the corporate attitude?  Do all ball companies defy the "corporate" attitude?  I really am baffled by this statement.  Thunder, what do you mean by this?

All eight tournaments were won by a bowler and I believe all eight were professionals.  Most - especially at the national level - are paid to bowl with the equipment they use.  I agree with Charlest, it is the bowler, not the ball.  Do you really think that bowler-x who won tournament-y would have had less of a chance to win had he accepted an endorsement contract from company-a instead of company-b?

Storm makes great products, I love their stuff, but you're not going to get a no-armed chimp in a coma to win a PBA tournament because he's throwing a Storm ball.

I agree that the bowlers are talented. As a matter of fact they are all so talented that the difference between the top 20 or 30 on tour is very small. That being the case the type of equipment they choose to use can make or break them for that week. How many times have we seen a tournament lost due to bad carry or bad ball reaction. I know that the bowler has to make the right ball choice to match up to the condition and play the right line but the diversity in equipment from the ball company that he may work for at the time makes that easier to do.
Just my opinion.
