Storm's new 1500 grit polished resurfacing procedure
« on: September 22, 2011, 02:34:46 PM »
Hey everyone, I just wanted to let you know that Storm updated their 1500 grit polished resurfacing procedure and it differs greatly from the procedure in the past. The old procedure called for 500 grit abralon followed by a grey scotch brite pad then finished with Storm's Step 2. The procedure now from their ball comparison chart is:

1500-grit Polished Factory Finish

1. 500-grit Abralon® – Sand firmly for 30 seconds on all four sides.

2. 1000-grit Abralon – Sand lightly for 20 seconds on all four sides.

3. 2000-grit Abralon – Sand lightly for 20 seconds on all four sides.

4. 4000-grit Abralon – Sand lightly for 20 seconds on all four sides.

5. Storm® Step Two™ – Polish lightly for 15 seconds on each side.

Storm® recommends using the suggested cleaner/polish daily. In addition, Storm recommends touching up the surface with only the final step every 20 games and resurfacing completely every 30-50 games.

Does any vendor sell Step 2 in a bottle smaller than a quart?  I have no need for that much polish but would like to be able to resurface my stuff at home.  I'll probably have to break down and buy it, but I can never see much self using that entire bottle.

Thanks for the update.  All my 1500 grit polish balls are older and I will follow the older procedure for them.  If i get any new of the newer storms I will follow the new procedures.

Oh yea, I forgot to mention that I emailed Storm yesterday and they confirmed that this is their updated 1500 grit polished finish. Since some of balls on the list are a bit older, I would imagine that this is for all of their 1500 grit polished equipment.

I haven't seen anything less than a quart for the Step 2. It seems like they originally just thought pro shops would be buying it, but more and more people are buying their own spinners and dont require that much liquid.

For clarification, the sanding steps say "all four sides", while the polish step says "each side". Does this mean just 2 sides for the polish, or still 4 sides?

I've taken my evil siege and have it at 4k with storm finish 2 over it.  It produced pretty good results.

Come to think of it, I don't have a single storm 1500 grit ball.  I've changed all of the surfaces of the 1500 grit balls.
