My father-in-law desires a new bowling ball or two.  He recently had an injury to his elbow, thus hurting his speed and revs.  He was looking at the Tropical Storm and Big Hit.  Looking at the numbers, they seem very similar with a slightly better core in the Tropical storm.

I suggested that he go with the Tropical and pick up another ball.  Could you guys give me some more info on both balls??  I would appreciate it, I haven't thrown storm in about 5 years.

The tropicals are interesting balls...but there isn't a whole lot of core in them so your father-in-law could experience some bad carry with it if it doesn't match up to his style and prefered shot on the lanes.  I would personally look at picking up a Dynothane Crisis Pearl as the ball can handle a little bit more oil and it has a better core to help with hitting power.

After that it depends on how much of a jump up he want to make in ball reaction, where he likes to play on the lane, revs, etc.

Yes, the tropical's core is slightly better than a big hit but it's not a huge difference.  That you and you a much stronger coverstock on the tropical so I personally don't believe the two are matched up to each other...that's why I recommended the crisis pearl.  From my own experience I have noticed the CP hits better and can handle a little more oil, etc.

For a second ball I would look into Storm's Hot Rod series or maybe something in the eraser line.  Which ball would depend on how late and how much hook you wanted to go with.  I personally like the Hybrid and maybe the ragin banshee as I've found both to be in the middle of length and control/flip in both series...with the proper drilling / surface prep ofcoarse.

But that's just one person's opinion...
