T-Road Arsenal - **UPDATE with Pics**
« on: March 10, 2008, 08:41:29 PM »
**UPDATE**
I had my new arsenal drilled up Monday night. I can't wait to try them out. Here are the specs, with pictures:

T-Road Solid
15 lbs 4 oz, 2.72 oz TW, 2" pin
Drilled stacked leverage

T-Road Pearl
15 lbs 4 oz, 3.14 oz TW, 3" pin
Drilled stacked leverage

Groove Urethane
15 lbs 1oz, 2.6 oz TW, 1 1/4" pin
Label drill

I received a great deal from my local pro shop operator Tonya Bennett at Extreme Bowling Supply. I paid $420 for all three balls ($170 per T-Road, $80 for Groove), drilling and thumb slugs included.

I hope to have reviews, along with a video soon. Thanks again for everyone's assistance. Let me know what you all think.

*Original Post*
It's been 9 years since I've bought a new ball, so I'm long overdue for a new arsenal. I'm looking for a 3-ball arsenal, including spare, for the majority of league conditions with occasional tournaments thrown in. After several months of research, I've decided on the T-Road Solid and Pearl.

I prefer the T-Roads' two piece construction (no filler). And I've heard they're a great 1-2 punch. I'm not sure if I should get identical pin placements, and perhaps drill both the same way (stack leverage). Anyone have thoughts or suggestions on this?

I would like a multi-purpose spare ball; a ball I can use for short dry patters as well as spares. I've heard the Jolts and Tropicals are too aggressive for either purpose. I'm considering a urethane ball from another manufacturer to use instead. Anybody have recommendations about this dilemma?

I know most wouldn't consider a 2-ball arsenal plus spare. I was taught early on in youth leagues to adjust different aspects of my physical game instead of grabbing another ball and throw the same line. I take 5 balls with me to league every week, but just use one ball the whole night and adjust accordingly. So three is enough for me.

I welcome and appreciate any comments and suggestions. I have partial specs in my profile for those who are interested. Thanks in advance for anyone's help.

I've heard the T-Roads are great compliments to one another.  I would get the T-Road Solid drilled pin under and the Pearl drilled pin over to maximize your options.  You could always tinker with cover finishes to get desired reactions.

The T-Road Solid and T-Road Pearl would make a great combination. They would cover most conditions that you would see.

A Tropical will work as a spare ball/dry lane ball if you are a lower rev player.  If you are a higher rev player a urethane ball is better.

n00dle, would you suggest the same pin-cg distances? From what I've learned, shorter pins are better for earlier roll, while longer pins are good for skid/snap. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Thanks for the input, coach. I am a higher rev player, so a urethane ball will be my choice. I'm not interested in the overpriced Liberator. I'm thinking about a Groove Urethane or the Black Angle remake. Anything you might recommend? I'm not brand loyal, but it's too bad Storm doesn't have a urethane option.

I've thrown the t-road pearl for quite a while now, and my pro shop I use is shipping me a t-road solid sometime this week. Hopefully I'll be able to give some useful input on the two soon.

If the T-road solid is just a touch earlier, and a touch less over/under prone on fresh oil, it will be a beast.

Rev, please keep me posted on what you discover. I'm eager to hear your reviews.

Thanks again for everyone's comments. I welcome more if anyone is interested.

tst4eko:  For your spares.  Couldn't the Storm Ice work for you?  It's designed to be a spare ball & some places have it pretty cheap.

Hey Monster. The polyester Ice is good for spares, but doesn't have enough bite for dry lanes. The reactive Jolts and Tropicals have too much bite for dry lanes and spares. And with my high revs, urethane would be the best choice for both since I only want to carry three balls.
