Back to bowling, bought a Sync
« on: March 11, 2013, 11:39:14 AM »
As a reward for myself after returning to bowling after 13 months off, I bought a Sync (forget the fact that my ball speed is down about 30-40% right now).  I was going to lay it out with pin above ring about 1/2 inch and MB about 2 inches out from thumb.  If I remember layouts correctly this would be very strong.  BUT,   in the year or so before I quit I was using the same layout on everything I own, pin above middle finger and everything else swung out to put MB an inch or so from thumb.  The question is, how much different would this reaction be from my original idea for the Sync?

If your ball speed is down that much, the Sync may not be the choice for you. The cover is very aggressive. If you want a low RG asym, the Defiant Soul may be a better choice, or perhaps step down to a Wrecker or Fire Road.

CB, it's not that I need another ball.  In fact I have plenty of equipment that will cover everything from bone dry to heavy house shots.  I just decided, after years of looking for stuff that won't hook much, to get a big hooker (and no comments about JLS' sister, please).  I've heard comments about the Sync that a lot of folks can't use it until the oil migrates down some, so I may not be able to use it in my home house for a bit, untill I regain speed.  But I just wanted  something that moved.

I guess that's what I get for trying to help. I figured if he didn't drill the ball, perhaps he could trade it for something else better suited to his ball speed. Rough crowd.

Rags, did you ever think about going apples / oranges with ball?  Since the ball is stronger, what about a weak layout and maybe 2000 plus a high UFO polish shine.  Maybe do something outside the box.  I once had a cherry Vibe at 500 plus UFO and it was a GREAT tournament ball......my idea was "weaker ball / weaker drill / TON OF SURFACE / Extender polish...

It would be fun to take a strong ball and go with a long pin to pap (discuss with your driller on yours) with a big UFO shine?

Just a thought, "don't flame me bro'"    :o   :P

A long pin to pap on an asymmetrical will lose axis tilt and rotation faster. It will also exhibit more forward roll. Not sure that's wise for someone with slower ball speed.

+1

You imo would be better off putting the pin in the 2.5-3.5" range, maybe even shorter due to your ball speed.

Very true to the above two.  I'm just trying to suggest thinking outside of the box.....if he talks with his driller about something unique based on his roll, maybe they can come up with an idea or two.
