The Spec cover and carry down
« on: October 17, 2020, 07:06:43 PM »
I just bought the Gravity Evolve. My first solid cover ball. Had a good look with it today during open bowling by the way. Anyhow, because the Spec cover does not absorb oil at the rate of other balls. Is it possible that this and other Spec cover balls can carry the oil down the lane?  My friend that was bowling with me seems to think so as a few of his shots did not finish through the pins.

I have a gravity evolve and that has not been my experience with it.  it might be "slow" at absorbing oil; but I do not see mine "redepositing" the oil down lane.

When you throw one of those shots that doeant appear to finish, look at it and see if there are oil rings all the way around it? if so, could be carry down.
if not complete oil rings ar very little shows on the cover, its a different issue.
Most likely the cause is that it is reading early and using up all its energy by the time it gets downlane, that looks similar to carry down.
trick is to move in towards the center of the lane a little at a time until you find some head oil

Even the fastest absorbing ball on the market still has oil on it when it gets back to the return . . flare has much more to do with carrydown than absorption rate.  Something like a Black Widow urethane won't cause much more carrydown if any than a resin ball because it flares more than traditional urethane.  Even if you don't wipe the ball off, the "backend" flare rings will always stay dry and the only carrydown you get from a higher flaring ball is at the bowties and that's super minimal.
