Storm Proton Physix
« on: November 20, 2020, 11:17:26 AM »

Hook in a box. That's what you'll get with the Proton Physix. I have had huge success with the Protons predecessors. I have multiple 800s with both the Physix and the Astro Physix. Fast forward to the Proton and you have a combination of the Atomic core and the NeX coverstock. I was skeptical that this ball would be even slower than the Axiom due to the bigger weight block. BOY WAS I WRONG. This ball has plenty of giddyup down lane and you won't be disappointed. You'll still find that this ball is weaker than balls such as the Omega Crux and Gravity Evolve. The Proton Physix bridges the gap nicely between our strong symmetrical balls and our huge asymmetrical pieces.

I drilled my PROTON PHYSIX up 65 x 4.5 x 30. I have thrown it at box finish which is 2000.

The intent was to have a big hitter in my bag for long patterns and also ones with more volume that blended down lane. I found out some unique things throwing this and it has more utility than I ever imagined.

I threw this on a 47 ft. sport pattern called Statue of Liberty. The PROTON is at home on this kind of pattern. Good motion and enough cover out of the box to grab the lane and strike pretty frequently. I put it side by side with the RST-X1 and IDOL SYNERGY. The X-1 was about 4 and 2 back to the right and also slightly softer speed. The IDOL SYNERGY was another 4 and 2 right of the X-1 and much slower down the lane compared to both balls.

I also got to throw this in a 50 and over tournament club that used a house pattern. This was one of the most over walled house patterns I have played on in awhile. While my RST-X1 was the look to start, by game 3 that was starting to go away and forcing me left. Now I was in wet/dry zone. On a hunch, I balled up to the PROTON PHYSIX and had enough grab to get on the wetter part of the cliff but enough control that slight misses right just rolled up and stopped. That is refreshing because now another potential use for the ball and to get in the puddle on wet/dry and control the edge of the cliff.

Holy Hook Batman!  This is by far the strongest ball, out of the box, that I have ever thrown!  This bad boy is some how early and some how still manages to generate a bunch of angle down lane.  I bowl mostly on house conditions, there is no way I could leave this at box finish and throw it…ever.  I took quite a bit of surface off of it.  I hit it with a 3000 pad and then again with a 4000 pad.  This allowed the ball to be cleaner through the front, and generating a very strong motion down lane.  This is for sure for the bowler that needs to cut through the oil on a loaded up house shot with a hard lane surface like ProAnvilane.

Physix on Steroids is the Proton Physix
The Storm Proton Physix is a ball you need when you are on those slicker lanes and your ball just doesn’t get going soon enough. This ball is a hook monster. This will help you “open the lane”. Tracks through the oil very well, hit the dry and this ball moves sharp off the spot. It gets through the heads fairly clean as long as you have oil, reads the mid-lane earlier than the original Physix and finishes very strong and powerful. It hits with so much power, pins explode. I was able to play the big puddle of oil on the THS and play deeper from the start. You’ll have to increase speed as the oil goes away or move in deeper.  It’s the perfect compliments to the Physix series when you need earlier and stronger. My PAP is 5-1/8 and 1/8 up. Usually around 15-16mph, I’d probably be classified between and tweener and cranker.

The Storm Proton Physix is the solid cover-stock version of the Physix line of bowling balls. With the NEX cover and the larger Atomic core, this ball, like the others in the Physix family, wants to rev up quick and dig in.

I went with my favorite 75x4.5x45 layout. I was very happy with how well this aggressive cover and core dealt with the wet/dry pattern and wood surface I tested on. Where compared to anything peal the Proton Physix blended the hard edge of the pattern while the pearl stood up and rolled out. The Proton Physix opened the pattern for me and got stronger and stronger the more I moved in.

You’re going to get what you expect out of this ball. It’s ability to pick up, recover and take a hard arc to the pocket is precisely why this ball will work on a range of patterns from medium to heavy volume.

PAP 4 ½ over and 1 up ball speed 15 rev rate 275
Drilling-45x4 1/2x60
Strong Strong Strong, I love this piece. Right away I saw more overall hook than anything in my arsenal. I was able to move 4 to 6 boards further left than my Halo or UFO and had no trouble with the oil, The Proton Loves it!!! Usually I have to play a little closer to the track area on the fresh to see the break point and The Proton Physix lets me get in with the boys without losing any pin carry!!!

PAP 3 ¾ over 1” up ball speed 17 rev rate 475
Drilling-50x4 3/4x70
After days of contemplating what I want to with this Hook Monster I decided to go with smoother pin down drilling and allow this Big Asymmetrical Solid do its thing. Off the press this ball really wants to dig in the oil and create a lot of mid-lane roll, don't be afraid to move left and give this one some room. I see the Proton about 6 boards more overall than my UFO or Omega Crux with the same drilling. I also see some good versatility as well, while shooting my ball reaction video I found I was able to play multiple angles on the Fresh Oil House shot.
