Storm Tropical
« on: September 26, 2011, 03:43:31 PM »
I ordered a couple to use on drier lanes and I read that it goes long and snaps.  Has anyone changed the surface to have it arc instead?  What were the results of doing so?

Which Tropical?  There are 3 types and they all have completely different reactions:

  • Tropical Storm - Modified 3 piece core - RG 2.59, Diff .022 - Produces a skid flip type reaction.
  • Tropical Breeze (pearl or solid) - Small Symmetrical core - RG 2.57, Diff .009 - Starts up considerably earlier than the Tropical Storm and has a controllable arc to it.
  • Tropical Heat (pearl, solid or hybrid) - Symmetrical core - RG 2.55, Diff .038 - These are a different breed altogether, more comparable to something like a Hy-Road than anything else in the Tropical line.

Had a good experience with a Tropical I picked up a couple years ago, here are my thoughts:

1. It has Reactor Pearl for the cover, so its very tuneable, and takes surface adjustments very well.

2. The nature of this ball is to be very skid/snap, and alot stronger than advertised as well.

3. Taking 1 and 2 into consideration, I had a wild hair and decided to drill it with a full roller drilling, and I loved it.

4. I did like mine better with 2000 abralon and no polish for house shots, it got into a very nice roll, read the midlane very well and still had pop on the back. This drilling and surface for me allowed me to play the track area, something I cant normally do because of my rev rate and axis rotation.

Hope this helps, somewhat lol....

Thanks.  The only real dry lane all besides my urethane balls is my xfactor with the thumb drilled in the mb and at 4k.  Changing it to 2k makes sense.  Once I get the balls I will know the pin lengths and determine how they could be laid out.
