Strong Storm/Roto Pearl
« on: August 01, 2012, 03:24:37 PM »
I'm looking to round out my arsenal with a strong pearlized ball for Medium/Heavy conditions that will help me open up angles when moving left.  I'm a power tweener, 15-16 mph, with a low track bowling mostly on synthetics. I prefer having my balls drilled 4x4x2 and having the coverstocks and cores determine the difference in ball reaction. My current arsenal is:

Defiant-Heavy
Crossroad-Medium
Rising Star-Medium/Light
Maxim-Spare

I'm trying to decide between the Virtual Gravity Nano Pearl, Defiant Edge, and Critical Theory. Matchmaker and Star Search are pointing me towards the VGNP and Critical Theory, but it seems like the Defiant Edge might be more versatile on a wider range of conditions. I'm leaning towards the VGNP but think any of the three would do what I'm trying to accomplish. Can anyone outline the key differences, strengths and weaknesses between the three? Any and all suggestions are appreciated

Since you have a Defiant already, the Edge would be the next in line. Its going to pick up where the Defiant leaves off. If you want to get in deeper with a ball that corners, the Critical Theory will be the ball. Its the longest and strongest on the back. The Nano Pearl is going to be earlier than both and be more rolly. Hope that helps.

The edge isn't really an angular ball at all, and like the previous poster said the VGNP is rolly. I'd go with the critical theory.

The Anarchy would also work if you can still find one.

+1 on the Anarchy.  Sick ball.  really skid flip with a strong hard move.  Love that ball.  I have two stashed in the basement for years to come :-)

The RG Bandit...By far, the most underrated ball in thier lineup. Smooth through the heads, with strong backend.
Arsenal:

Heavy: RG Theory, RG Rogue Cell, Storm Virtual Gravity
Medium: RG Nomad Dagger, RG Bandit, Storm Marvel
Light: RG Rising Star

The Critical Theory was also a huge star in my league this year.  It will be longer and more angular than the Edge and should allow you to get a few boards deeper.  The Edge appears to be more similar to the Nano Pearl in having more of a heavy roll and arc motion.

One more for the Critical Theory.  All of the other balls you have mentioned will work, but the Critical was the breakout ball of the Theory line IMO.  The pearl cover + 4000 abralon finish is the secret sauce.  It gets through the heads like a pearl but has more of a hybrid look through the mids which provides great forgiveness in a THS.
