I just recently experimented with Storm for the first time in years. I have the Snap Lock. It's a great piece for the right condition. I'm looking for something that's a little earlier, smoother, and more usable for med-heavy conditions. Any suggestions? I'd like to keep this Storm/Roto experiment going.

You should look in to a Haywire if you want overall smooth ball reaction through all 3 phases. If you want a little more pop but still not flippy; then a No Rules would be a suggestion also. It also depends on your rev rate. If you are a stroker to tweener; I would say No Rules. But if you are more of a higher rev rate; you should go Haywire or Rocket Ship.

Could always take the factory finish off your snap lock, if you havent already. I took mine to a 4k finish, just enough to get the shine off. Cheaper to do that than buy something new.

Optimus Solid. Will be punching up this week. Great for med-heavy oil. ;D

If you want a solid for heavy oil you can try the alpha crux; the alpha crux is earlier than the snap lock is also smoother and stronger. If you want something that is usable on medium heavy I would suggest the original lock. The original lock is cleaner and angular than the alpha crux, but can still handle heavy oil if you adjust the surface. I've throw the snap lock, lock and alpha crux and personally liked the lock the best since it was most usable and hit like a truck.

Phaze II belongs in his conversation as well. It just depends on how strong of a ball you really want. I think it would rank like this:
No Rules > Alpha Crux > Lock > Haywire > Phaze II > Rocketship
With the Haywire and Phaze II being really close overall. The latter gets down the lane a little better with more punch on the backend.

Phaze II will be slightly earlier with more backend punch than any of the other symmetrical options. Or you could go with a Lock and change the surface from 3000 to 4000 to get it to read a little later and thus be closer to the Snap Lock.
