Comparison of Ace and Fired Up
« on: May 19, 2005, 07:21:54 AM »
I am wondering if anyone could compare the Ace and the Fired Up. Also would like to hear the pros and cons of each.

Ace is for Medium to heavy oil and is a big hit ball, everyone has one
I don't know any thing about the fired up.

The Ace being a particle pearl and having a strong asymmetric core, The Fired-up being resin pearl, I'd STRONGLY suspect that with the same drilling used by the same person, they either can't be used on the same oil pattern, OR you'd have to stand 15-20 boards deeper (slight exaggeration for effect) with an Ace than with the Fired-up.

They are NOT for the same oil pattern.

Lol, I don't know about that.  My Fired Up covers a LOT of boards.  I can play 2nd arrow or 5th arrow and don't really have to change my shot a whole bunch for either shot.  It may not be supposed to hook that much, but it does.  It's all on the backend.  I've seen an Ace, and yes, it revs sooner and is smoother on the backend, BUT there's not as much difference as there's supposed to be.  Reactor is a lot "meaner" of a coverstock than Accu-Tread is.  The stuff flat out cooks on the backend.

Hampster,

Unless there's particle in the Reactor coverstock,
there oughta be a significant difference.

OR

Has Storm finally created their version of Brunswick's Activator cover??

I don't know, I was under the impression that Monsoon was their version of Activator.  Particle pearl Accu-tread is really something.  Remember the Trauma Recovery?  Same coverstock, and it hooked less than quite a few reactive pearls I've had, and not because it was burning up.  Lol, even kinda looks like the Recovery.  Very similar reaction, smooth, revs up well, but the sheer amount of boards the Fired Up covers when it so much as sniffs dry makes up for the 5 feet or so that it goes longer than the Ace.

Good observations.

I thought that about the Monsoon coverstock also; now it seems the Reactor will supercede the Monsoon.

On top of this all, in the current review of BTM, the Fired Up is reviewed as almost stronger than the Ace,
while the Screaming Banshee with the solid Reactor coverstock was adequate (my interpretation of their numbers and words) for medium oil, but the Fired-Up scored higher in utility than the SB in Dry, Medium AND Oil!

And the RS-X, from all accounts, a fairly powerful, low RG high differential, is barely more than the Silver Streak.

Riddles upon riddles. I remain confused.

It's easy to be confused, I don't understand it myself.  Reactor has a Brunswick-like quality about it that makes it very clean at the breakpoint, I've always appreciated that about B stuff.  B stuff just burns too much energy too quickly, especially on shorter oil, which is why I prefer Storm, even though Storm tends to be smoother on the backend.  This development is very exciting indeed.
