Title: Street Rod Pearl vs Pyro
Post by: Urethane Game on August 22, 2008, 06:34:56 AM
For those that have thrown both, how do these balls compare?

Street Rod Pearl is definitely alot smoother on the back. Pyro can really dig in with the particle/pearl coverstock and has a strong backend reaction. Pyro will handle a little more oil and can work on med-light to med-heavy depending on layout, surface, and bowler. The Street Rod Pearl is a med-light oil ball. Both balls have excellent hitting power at the deck and carry alot of pins.

What SV said.

Street Rod Pearl is a smooth reacting pearl.  Pyro is has some extra bite down close to the pin deck.  If I were throwing both balls on the same condition I'd be using the SR for a more down and in shot and the Pyro to swing a bit more.

I also agree with what both of these guys are saying I own the SRP but I have seen a lot of people toss the pyro. The only thing I will say is that to me my SRP does seem to start up a bit early for being a low end ball with that high of an rg. That is just my 2 cents both are great balls.

I have just drilled the SRP and see it being smooth like the Pyro. The Pyro was one of those balls that seemed like when it was right, everyone in the building using one was striking with it.

What I see of the SRP is a ball you can stay close to the friction with. It fooled me a couple of times into swinging it across the lane and watching it go splat into the pindeck leaving some very weak tens and a puffy 8-10. When I went back parallel to the friction, I blew racks pretty easily.

I did not have the opportunity to throw a Pyro. However, I do own a SRP.  In my estimation, it is rather early and "rolly" for a pearl. Not a ball to swing the whole lane with due to its earlier/rolly nature. As someone previously stated, does have a tendency to hit weak when covering too many boards or skid out on too much volume.

Picked mine up last night.  Very rolly indeed.  A good step down from the Pyro.
