Confused about Storm
« on: October 15, 2007, 01:31:35 PM »
I thrown nothing but Brunswick for the last 5 years or so and was interested in giving Storm a try. I was told to be weary of Storm stuff because they cater to a certain type of style. Is that true? If so, what style would that be? I also hear that most of their equipment goes long and flips hards on the backend. I was reading some recent reviews and its just the opposite of what i've been told. Im confused, which is it?

Storm has equipment that fills just about every reaction.  T-road solid, Special Agent, Thunderstruck Solid are just a few of the current line up that do not fit into the skid/flip category.

My brother gets a ton more revs on the ball than I do and we've both had success with Storm.

There is a stereotype that storm balls all go long. The Special and Secret Agents, the Passion, T-Road Solid, Thunderstruck solid all offer strong midlane reaction. As with all companies ball surface and layout can give you almost any kind of reaction.

So what would be a good 6 ball arsenal for league and tournament play that would cover most conditions?

Medium/Heavy-Heavy (longer, "Shark"-esque) - Attitude Shift (coming soon) or Special Agent
Medium-Heavy - strong drill on T-Road Solid + mild polish (if needed)
Medium-Heavy (more angular) - Paradigm Domination or Shift
Medium - Weak(er) drill on Sure Fire
Light-Medium (flip) - T-Road Pearl
Light - Weak drill on Jolt Solid, or a Tropical

They have a pretty wide range of stuff actually.  I am loving the Agents on the tougher shots.  In my PBA league I always seem to go to the Special Agent and it always seems to work.  I have just added the Secret Agent and it also is smooth rolling.  These things read the lane nicely and just glide in there.

Basically check out all the stuff with their new R2S coverstock.  revTrex gave a good example there.  You'll probably know what type of reactions you want and they have a good variety available with this new coverstock.

I am not sure what style of play that they are supposed to cater to, but I throw probably below average speed to average speed and have a very unremarkable amount of revs on the ball.  It is probably my speed that generates the hook and I just try to let the ball do the work usually.  I have seen many different styles of players succeed with these newer balls they have out now.

Storms newer stuff has a bit more midlane read than they used to. IMO they used to mainly be go long and flip balls. I would say, if you are looking for recovery and backend, Storm cant be beat!

I think you'll find Storm has plenty of everything to fill all sorts of bowling styles. Here's my example of a six ball arsenal:

Heavy/longer: Paradigm Passion or Secret Agent
Medium-Heavy: Longer/Stronger look the Domination or Agent; earlier read the T-Road Solid
Medium: T-Road Pearl/Spit Fire/Sure Fire depending on reaction wanted
Light-Medium: Thunderstruck or Jolt
Lighter/shorter: Tropical

I don't think the Attitude is going to fit the bill where the Passion is unless given some more surface; the RG seems pretty high for a heavy oil ball for me.

since we are on this,
can i ask if my arsenal can fit into the 6 ball arsenal?

currently i have
1-secret agent
2-pyro
3-spit fire
4-tropical
5- storm spare

thinking of getting the sure fire and the shift n shift attitude

Yeah, I like the Special Agent and Secret Agent for that.  I say that not having actually tried the Attitude myself so I wouldn't know until I tried it.  Of course, there is no way I can afford to try all these things

Next open house maybe?
