I think its a White dot on steroids, but still a plastic ball.

No core and polyester - yup sounds like a White Dot to me

Yes it's at least similar. Both polyester & similar cores.  Mainly a spare ball.

Yup, it is harder. The White Dots (as well as the current Blue dots) are in the 78-80 hardness range, the Ice Storm is about 84-86, if I remember correctly. I have one, and with polish it really glides a tad better than a "normal" polyester. But the hard material is brittle: mine started cracking around the finger holes. No real damage so far, but that's probably the price to pay.
