i want to try storm
« on: November 18, 2007, 09:39:14 AM »
so i have always wanted to try storm, but everyone at the two alleys i frequent most say not to bowl storm, that they roll out after like 6 weeks if you bowl alot, and that they are only for crankers, and overall just a big waste of money... i bowl probably 21-27 games a week. currently i have a desert heat, maxim, hyjinx, and action max, ive had them all for a little under a year, and i still want to try storm... what do you guys think? are these people right?  i want the attitude shift or one of the agents

A Storm will give you a whole different reaction than what you are used to. It would be a good compliment to the rolly stuff you have now. A attitude shift should give you alot more backend than what you are used to. Try a T Road pearl also. Can you say left turn and kick out the 10?

Try the Special Agent or the original Agent. I have yet to drill my Attitude Shift yet, but I love the Special Agent and the Original Agent.. Both are seen on TV Telecast's every week.. So they can't be bad balls.

Storm balls have exactly the same longevity as any other manufacturer out there.  All reactive and particle balls' longevity is more a matter of maintenance rather than the company that makes them.  Over the past 5 years I have probably owned 20 or so Storm balls and I have never known them to 'roll out'.  In general I clean my equipment after every outing and I sand / polish back to the desired surface every 100 games or so.

Not true.  I'm still using my Special Agent that has probably 80 games on it, and it hooks maybe two boards less than it did out of the box.  Just remember to clean it after every set and if you start to see a loss of reaction after 50-100 games, just give it a hot water bath and a light resurfacing and it'll bring it right back to life.  That worked great for me.

Not true.  I'm a stroker and Storm works great for me.  Also just look at Norm Duke last year on the PBA tour -- he set a new tour average record throwing nothing but Storm, and he's far from a cranker.

and overall just a big waste of money...
The jackpots I've won with my Special Agent and Spit Fire have more than paid for those balls already.

Do you have a particular kind of reaction you're looking for?

well my action max doesn't hook as much as i'd like it to, now maybe i should blame myself and not the ball, but basicly i just want something alot more aggressive  for tournament oil, and for pba experience leagues

Go with either a Special Agent or Agent.. You almost every week see one of these on the PBA Telecasts.. You cannot go wrong with one of these.

I agree that you should NEVER EVER base what you get off what the pros are throwing, but in this case it's at least a good benchmark.  He wants something for tournament-style conditions, and there's a reason that SO many bowlers on the pro tour have been using the Agent and the Special Agent.  Men, women, strokers, crankers, etc. have been on TV just this season alone on many different oil patterns with those particular balls.  And it's because they are smooth and predictable off the breakpoint and have good continuation and pin action, but also respond well to higher volumes of oil and will definately hook when you need to generate some angle to the pocket.

Now, to fine-tune the ball choice and drilling spec, do you happen to know any of the details about your release?  PAP, speed, revs, axis tilt or rotation?

LOL factor 10 captain.  Warp core breach in progress!

I would say I bowl about as much as you every week and I am so not a cranker.  Balls?  Yeah they are holding up fine.  Granted I clean the crap out of them.  Make you try the right one though.  For instance, an Attitude Shift would not work for me on my league shot but it would work for another guy on my team.

Not just on TV, but I have seen others use the Special Agent a lot in PBA Exp. leagues.  Also, it is one of my personal favorites on those patterns.  I even ended up using it on the Cheetah which confuses me but hey it worked.
