Cracked Balls
« on: March 20, 2016, 03:38:26 PM »
In the last five months I have had three Storm balls crack completely around the ball while resting in a climate controlled environment and rotated every month..  I tried to find if there was any similarities like the same coverstock, all symmetrical vs. asymmetrical, solids vs. hybirds vs. pearls, same cores, or that the balls came from the same line e.g. Premier, Master, Thunder, etc. that the balls might have shared, I could not find any similarities other than all three were produced from 2012-2014 time period.
Lost the IQ Tour Edition Solid, Firestorm Pearl, and Crux Hybird.  I'm going to Staples tomorrow and buy some clears plastic bags for small desk wastepaper cans and put all my many remaining balls in plastic to see if that stops what has occurred.  It's worth a try as you all know how expensive these balls are.

2 Shifts, an Attitude Shift & my Nuts cracked...  :o ??? :P

Sorry to hear about your Nuts...

Thanks man...  The wife ask if the dress she was wearing made her look fat... I said, "No, it ain't the dress, it's what's underneath it..."  that's when my Nuts were cracked... :o :'(

Dang, that's funny. Almost made me spit out my sip of Woodford Reserve....almost.

Funny thing is, it was my Nuts originally. I gave him my Nuts. Then he goes and breaks the Nuts I gave him.

In the last 12 months my son and I have lost four to cracking.  He lost his Critical Theory last year and his Optimus Solid ten days ago.  The Optimus Solid was in his current arsenal and was in his bag.  I lost my IQ Pearl and IQ Fusion in the span of 5 days in June.  Both of the IQ's were kept in the basement on ball cups.  I'd used the IQ Fusion a week earlier and decided to put it back in the rotation.  Went out for another practice session and it left my hand intact but came back cracked completely around the ball from the bottom of the thumb to about an inch from the middle finger.  I've since started to put all of the balls not in use in plastic bags.  Here's to hoping that works.

I've tried the plastic bag theory.  For me, it didn't work.  I've had 3 crack on me even with them being in the plastic bag and in a controlled environment this past month.  I have now stopped buying the equipment of that specific company(companies)/manufacturer.  I haven't had any other companies/manufactured equipment from Mexico crack on me.  Hmm, come to think of it, this could start another topic.

I know everyone has their own share of cracked bowling balls from all different companies/manufacturer.  But mine have been specific to 4 brands.

My trusty old Marvel Pearl cracked all the way around from the finger holes.

My experience is that I've had a Columbia 300 Pearl Beast crack after about 10 years of use, a V2 small hairline crack in the bridge, and most recently I had an Ebonite Crush Resin drilled out axis weight that cracked after about 5 games in 3 weeks of ownership. The Crush actually started cracking from the axis hole and went towards the pin, which was only about an inch and a half from my axis. Now I'm getting nervous about my stash of undrilled gems!!!

Forgot, I had my Storm Lightning Storm crack too, but that was like 10 years ago or so.

I have had roto-grip, storm, columbia, brunswick, all crack over the last three years - all balls well maintained indoors.  Each time, the ball company or pro-shop replaced it.
