We've talked about the numbers on the IQ Tour...and just how similar it would look to a Tour Power. Tonight I drilled one 4.75" with a 4" pin buffer and a p3 weight hole. Left the box finish on it and threw it for a few minutes before I had to close up and head home. The motion is just like a Tour Power....I mean back in those days. The Tour Power today is more of a medium lane ball with a pretty mean backend motion because of how clean Curelon is on today's lane oils.
It picks up the lane very well in the mid and just has that heavy....HEAVY roll that made the Tour Power SOOOO good on medium and shortish patterns.
I really can't wait to use this in my sport shot challenge league this Wednesday.

I broke my Tour Power back out a few weeks ago when I wasn't really happy with what I had for medium oil sport shots. I bought it used a few years ago and had some decent success with it when I first started bowling sport shots, but I stopped using it because I could never get the thumb just right. I was able to fix that when I threw it recently, but no longer cared for the reaction. Way too much back end for what I want on a sport shot. Maybe that's a good thing for higher rev rates than me? I had to give the pocket away too much and hope my launch angle, speed, and rev rate were all perfect. Not what I'm looking for when I'm trying to maximize area and mistake room. :o Looked like a better house shot ball in my hands. I will be interested in how it performs Wednesday.

I set my old TP up with the pin down, and 1 inch axis hole. I am thinking such a layout would bring out a lot of what people like about this type of ball in the new IQ.

Tour Power's coverstock was ACCU-Tread Solid Reactive. One of Storm's best ever coverstocks for sure.

Sorry you're right...but pretty much any cover from that timeframe to me struggles with midlane read on the newer oils. The Tour Powers I see now change direction much quicker than back in the day (10 years ago)...lol

If memory serves me correctly, the Tour Power had some surface on it OOB, right? That might have contributed to the smoothness of the ball.

Yes they did have surface, something probably close to the 4000 abralon finish put on most balls now with scuff OOB. The thing that made the Tour Power so great though was the combo of low RG AND low Diff...want to say it was like 2.47 and .030. It made the ball not want to catch a roll too quick.

Tour power was dull out of the box. I think more like about 1500 than 4000. However it polished up to the lane quickly, yet stayed smooth at the break point. Storm actually promoted it as a strong ball at its introduction, but it was the smooth controllable reaction that made the ball a hit with guys competing on flatter patterns.
Accutread was only really aggressive with a lot of surface, and it took a lot of maintenance to keep the surface strong. I remember putting a 600 grit on mine before a summer league session, and by the 6th frame it had tamed down plenty.
