The Storm Lucid
« on: December 11, 2012, 10:36:01 AM »
Some generic stats about me:

PAP:  4 7/8" RT 1 1/2 UP
Axis Tilt 8-10 degrees
Avg Speed: 16-17 mph
Medium Revs (enough to move in and open up the lane if needed)

Current Arsenal w/layouts:
Ebonite Pursuit-S (45x4x50 w/P1 weight hole)
Ebonite Innovate (65x4x50)
Storm Victory Road (45x4x40 w/P1 weight hole)

I don't really have a pressing "need" for the Lucid, as I can use my Pursuit-S with a bit of surface for heavier oil shots and my Innovate is a solid benchmark (for me).  That being said I'm getting a Lucid for Christmas.  Too many options..... :P  :P

How would you lay it out and what surface would you keep it at and how should I expect this ball to fit in?  I may be thinking of gearing it more towards medium oil....again, many options.

what type of reaction do you want

I'm really pretty open minded about that.  I'm comfortable with what I have so this ball isn't really vital.  I'm contemplating a long pin to pap, maybe at a fresh 2000 with a big shine.

This ball will be simply supplemental to my current arsenal.

You could use the same layout as on the innovate. The ball is strong so a long pin to pap and bigger drill angle would help to get it down the lane.

Lucid is pretty strong, with a rolly look, but is more angular off the break point than Nano Pearl.  It handled carrydown the best of anything in my bag on a high volume 38 foot pattern that was pretty flat in Vegas.

I am seeing the same kind of look Avabob described with the Lucid also. I got a chance to use it on Kegel Winding Road. I think this is 43', but was on old anvillane that is about 20 years old which provided built in surface friction. Once the lanes started to open up, the Lucid was my best option. I would describe it as strong arc.

I'm going to talk about that with my driller today.  I'm fortunate to have a very solid and knowledgable B&M shop.  I wonder what a 65x5.75x45 layout may do....?

I know most of you are not familiar with the old AZO Area, but the lucid is basically the same ball with a bit stronger shell. The Area was extremely rolly, yet created the most back end of any ball in the Storm line at the time.  Lots of similarities in the Lucid but it will start up a bit earlier, and force you a bit deeper as the shot opens up
