top weight/pin position/how to drill
« on: October 04, 2004, 09:45:40 AM »
Thinking about getting an x-factor ace.

I haven't bowled seriously in years and don't know much about bowling ball drilling. my old ball is a reactive resin and in high school i'd throw it 20 mph down the 1-2 board and hook into the pocket. I would throw it harder depending on lane conditions to keep it from over hooking. Im trying to slow it way down and learn to bowl with the arc type hook instead of straight down and then just cut into pocket.

I plan to use it as my only strike ball but I will probably use my old ball for spares alot or in really dry conditions if it calls for it but my point is my new ball will be my main ball.

how should I drill it? I'd have to say I'm 14-15mph speed and low revs but I'm just starting back. I plan to order a ball online and have it drilled locally. and I noticed you can pick a pin position and top weight. So I don't know what to get.

I don't plan on getting lessons or having a pro watch me bowl. So Hopefully I can get some good information here.

I know of a good driller locally but I would like to know how I want it drilled before I go so that its not just the decisions of one proshop guy and me not knowing what it is.

thanks

klep...  If you have a good ball driller locally I would talk to him about ball selection way before how to drill the ball you choose.  If you really are throwing the ball that slow then an ACE may not be the best ball for you style and lane conditions.  With someone of your speed I would be looking at a less aggressive ball to help you store energy and get down the lane.  However, that would be on our local condition.

Again...talk with your local driller as he can help you pick out a ball that will suite your style.
